Thread: spread out experimentation vs focused
I know there is a lot of people asking about how to experiment on components and then on the finished product. Im not an expert, by far, but I thought I would post some interesting data I collected on an RSF sword. I had seen a post in the jedi forum about how spamming specials was the wrong tactic now. Its better to use several different attacks…even if they are all on the same timer. I started thinking that maybe the devs extended that “no spam” philosophy to crafting.
In other words, putting all your exp points in one category, damage for example, is less effective than spreading it out in multiple categories. I think we can all agree that there are diminishing returns on experimenting anyway.
So here is some data: all on an rsf sword using same resources
Sword 1
Component 1: E3 D7 (spd -.552 D 21-44 sac 0)
Finished product: E4 S2 D4 (spd 2.27 D 232-535 dps 168.92 sac 98)
Sword 2
Component 1: E3 S7 (spd –1.532 D 15-41 sac 0)
Finished product: D6 E3 S1 (spd 2.2 D 244-549 dps 179.65 sac 101)
Sword 3
Component 1: S10 (spd –1.891 D 15-41 sac 4)
Finished product: D9 S1 (spd 2.17 D 267-572 dps 193.23 sac 114)
Sword 4
Component 1: D10 (spd -.552 D 24-49 sac 4)
Finished product: S8 D2 (spd 2.05 D 214-518 dps 178.81 sac 114)
I thought it was intresting that experimenting all in speed on components and then all in damage on the final product yielded the best dps. Not only on this sword but also in a lot of the other things I have been making. However, the weapon with the exp points spread around, the second one, looks, at least to me, to be the better “all around weapopn.” Its also intresting that the first weapon sacrificed 14 dps for 13 points lower in sac, almost a 1 to 1 trade off. I still think that the high dps weapon will sell better. Is this consistent with what all of you have been finding?

p.s. the S D E in the list means speed, damage, efficiency. for example if i experimented 4 points in speed and 6 in damage it would be S4 D6

Even I don't understand why ppl go so much for the dps-optimized weapons as well.
If you could one-hit-kill a mob or in a very short time, this would be useful. But you won't get any xp for these kind of mobs ...
If you go for a lvl 80 hunt or something really challenging that's where the action bar comes in. I think calculating the time needed for killing such a mob will give the 2nd sword a better result. But I didn't proof that. Would be nice, if someone could check this out and try it with and w/o action foods and drinks.
DPS in my opinion is a very bad thing to rely on in standard combat situations.
But you are right, our customers seem to trust in that value exclusively atm.
