Thread: Question regarding sub-components and large scale weapon production
Last weekend I finally made Master Weaponsmith. During my grind I did a few factory runs of power handlers and blaster barrels so I could make weapons for friends or sell a few on the bazaar. However, I only did one factory run of scout blasters, mainly for testing purposes to see what was involved and to get an idea of the process.
Now I'm starting to build up inventory so I can start selling weapons on a large scale. However, I was wondering when making schematics for sub-components, do you create one sub-component schematic for each different weapon, or do you use the same sub-component schematic to use in several different types of weapons?
For example, say I'm going to create a factory schematic for Scout Blasters. First I need to do a factory run of advanced power handlers and a factory run of blaster pistol barrels, then I can use those for the factory run of Scout Blasters. Next, say I want to do a run of DL44 pistols. Do you create a new power handler and pistol barrel schematic for the DL44, or use the same schematic you used for the Scout Blasters?
I can see making a separate sub-component schematic for each type of weapon because then you'd be able to get the full 1000 production out of the weapon schematic, instead of say only 500 because you used the rest of the power handlers and barrels for a different weapon type as well.
On the other hand, I have to wonder how often anyone ever really gets the full 1000 production out of a weapon schematic, what with how often resources change and the constant quest to craft a better weapon.
At any rate, I just wanted to get a feel for how the 'old hands' in the WS profession do things. I'd appreciate any advice or suggestions. Many thanks in advance.

It depends on how much volume you move really.If you have good resources for subcomponents just make them in large batches and use them on all weapons till they run out. I like to do runs of 500 for barrels, full 1k runs of power handlers and usually 250 on things like cores.
With weapons its much more of a judment call. A weapon that sells fast like a republic blaster or vibro knucklers you can get away with making in runs of 100 or even 200. With something that doesnt sell fast like striker pistols I rarely make these in batches larger than 50. If you make the batches of weapons to large you run the risk of having a large backstock of outdated weapons.
It takes time to figure out how many weapons to make in each batch. If you make your batches too small then you will probably burn out trying to keep a vendor fully stocked with all weapons. If you make them too large then you end up with outdated weapons. Best bet it so start making batches of 25 or 50 till you get well known then go for the larger runs.

Thanks for the feedback Armani. Do you find that you often go through an entire schematic (all 1000)for a particular weapon, say for example a Scout Blaster or a Vibroknuckler, or do you typically only go through a couple hundred of the schematic before you find you have to make a new one due to new resources and such?
I realize for things that require multiple sub-components, like Republic Blasters or Laser Rifles/Carbines, you'd never be able to do the full 1000 because you'd use up the sub-component schematic first. But for weaponsthat only require, say,one power handler and one barrel, have you found that you often go through a full 1000 schematic? And I don't mean all at once, but over time doing several batchs of 50 or 100 or whatever quantity.

i normally make runs of 1000's of the barrels and handlers then runs of 100 for the final gun, and normally i ony use a schem 1 time then dump it, resources change so much im always trying new combinations. by the time i sell 100 of a wep new stuff should be out.
I currently have 4 factories than run anytime im on just to keep up demand its insane. with a 5th just incase i need a quick run. Im not to worried about loosing 1 gun for each schematic, hell i prolly loose 3-6 getting the perfect schem anyways.
oh yeah and hope you like tell hell... once your name gets out hold on. I was impressed by the fact that I could carry on 9 conversations at once.
I don't know about you guys.. but I seem to have trouble keeping the # of schematics to a mininum. The 50 schematic limit isa pain in the groin.
If you plan on providing a large variety of weapons, it probably wouldn't make sense to have 10 different power handler schematics.
Also, as we have seen with Corbantis lately, the resource shifts have really forced everyone to redo their component schematics (APH, Barrels, etc). So, it would really only make sense to maintain one unique set of components.
Of course, I don't have the problem of my weapons selling out too fast like *bow down* Master Armani. So my theory can be debunked if you need thousands upon thousands of components. ![]()

I'm planning to specialize in pistols. This way I only have to track about 14-15 resources instead of 3-4 dozen. I'm hoping to be able to open shop by this weekend, but I guess we'll see.
