How I rationalized(and paid for) my grind to Master WS. School sucks. You go and learn a ton of stuff that you'll never need to know and then one day your hours spent in the library are rewarded by not having to do it anymore. Grinding is like paying your dues. How I paid for it was using my lots to pull resources. I sold ore to pay for the steel harveters I used to grind.

If you elect not to grind go up Firearms 1 then tech because you'll need to do that to make stuff people will actually want. And you are going to have to make a lot of Master Artisan things to subsidize your educational aspect.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA Church of Alvis!!!!!!!!

Good advice, and an even better cartoon reference!

Did you know that missions from the artisan terminals scale their difficulty based on your combat level?

How does this make any sense?

Grinding is not cheating, it is the method the DEVS have forced us to use in order to get skills. This is especially true in the WS profession. At novice you can't get more than like 60xp for an item. Tell me how you could get single skill box without grinding? And what are you going to sell? The only entity that would buy a purely novice WS's stuff is a Junk Dealer.

If it makes you feel better, grind and give-to-guildies or sell Weapon Upgrade Kits. Smugglers need 'em and, unless something's changed quite recently, the quality doesn't really matter ... any old crappy grinding metals will do. Once you get firearms1, though, you can start making projectile rifle barrels which give 94 xp per so you can move along a (tiny) bit faster.

I'm thoroughly disgusted by the fact that we have to grind - I, like you, would MUCH rather become a better weaponsmith by actually smithing weapons, rather than grinding steel for hours on end. But it's pretty much a fact of life.

As someone else suggested, grind pistol barrels to Firearms 1, then grind rifle barrels to Techniques 4. Once you have Tech 4 you can at least try making some weapons and have them not completely suck. You'll find pretty quickly that if you want to get any further along, you'll need to grind some more.

Part of the problem is that a lot of your best sellers will be factory-made items (ie crates of C12s or WUKs), and factories don't give any experience right now. I do a thriving business in C12s, and have been for the past month or so (I've actually had so much fun being an expert weaponsmith that I haven't felt like grinding), but it hasn't gotten me a single skill box.

Just look at grinding as basic training to join the weaponsmith army, or pledge week/month to join the weaponsmith frat.

Ahem!
Well i have an question..that i hope will make me feel a lil bit better about this proffesion.

Just started really...almost an master artisan, and just had novice weaponsmith...yay! or no..

I need like 32k xp for one of the next levels in weapon smith, by only crafting the weapons and componets that i got with novice weapon smith..

Well now, anything i make is really bad since i got only 1 experimation point, and the xp i get from a item like the D18 Pistol with its componets is like really low i think. I saw the threads about 'grinding' offcourse, but i really dont feel like doing that, because don't flame me now, it looks like some kind of 'cheating' to me.

Anyone sharing this feelings with me?

In a way you are right. But if you want to get to master any time soon, you will need to grind. Regardless of what you make you should still be able to sell it on the Bazar and make a little bit of cash.

That's very noble of you, really, but you will condemn yourself to months of depression if you try to sell everything you make as you progress towards Master WS. If you are a power-gamer it might not take you that long, but you will become frustrated if you don't seek the most efficient way to reach your goal.

I had a twinge of that feeling as well, but I got over it. You know what changed my mind? This: if SOE didn't want us to look for (relatively) quick ways to earn crafting XP they wouldn't have given us the "PRACTICE" mode or the increased XP that goes with that. Nor would they have allowed the use of crafting macros. Believe me, when you're staring at the crafter windows for hours on end as you run your macros you will STILL feel like it's an endless slog. I'm only half-way to master WS and, not only am I using the macros I'm allowed to create, but I AM selling some of the weapons I build, or I'm giving them to guild-members to evaluate. I get the satisfaction along with the XP.

Don't feel bad. Set up a group of macros, grab a bunch of steel, and have a seat. You're in good company.

Best advice I can give you:

1) Make sure you have harvesters pulling grinding material in bulk

2) Block off huge chunks of your life

3) grind. Find the components that give the most xp and just make them over. and over. and over. and over.... until you either go insane or reach master...

To grind or not to grind that is the question.

Hmm yeah...maybe an sugestion for the devs

Would be nice if we get Experimation points by just crafting an certain item more, would be more realistic to.

And would make it more fun, since the things you make actualy can be used for something

You don't have to grind all the way up... just try to get to 0304, then you'll be able to sell stuff on the bazaar.

Travel from town to town and sell a few weapons in each. You can grind while waiting for the next shuttle, it gives you the feeling that you're actually doing something useful instead of just waiting.

An alternative is to try to sell grenades, many people will want them for the extra XP they give - and because of the way they're used you don't have to experiment on them.
