Thread: Introducing the Pride of Kashyyyk bowcaster
Greetings,
Mostly directed to my fellow wookiee weaponsmith brethren - I'm sure we've all always wanted a bowcaster that was a real eye opener - I personally have been wanting one for ages but never really could afford to blow the amount of money necessary to acquire the high end components.
However, thanks to Thoax (fellow weaponsmith friend), whose generosity to me in providing not one, but 2 sets of required and special components still amazes me (I critical failed the first, you can bet the /wookieroar was heard across the galaxy), I was able to craft a bowcaster I am immensely pleased with. Also had a wookiee master smuggler slice it for 31% damage, and stuck a powerup on it and took a screenshot.

We still need an upgraded bowcaster schematic because as nice as I think this is ... it took way, way too much in terms in ingredients, and no small amount of luck in the slice!

What were the stats of krayt tissue used to make it?
My bowcasters without any enhancementsare 5.2speed 289 max damage.
I made a krayt one using generic tissue, brought it down to 4.9speed 319 max damage, it got a 28% damage slice so its approx 410max damage
it is a very nice bowcaster, wish I had one like that.

I also am planning to create a great Bowcaster. Although im going to see if they fix our schematic in the next few patches..
My opinion is that it should be at least AP1, with Kenetic or Blast damage
Used a set of +90's tissues and a +20 HVFM to create it. I also had a crazy lucky advanced blaster rifle barrel which was 16/16 with the same speed mods as a regular (also provided by Thoax out of his own personal and limited stash of these).
Yah, I have been hanging out for them to fix things but given we get one component fix every big publish (we still have advanced stocks and advanced blaster rifle barrels IMO to go) and their general lack of drive to fix anything wookiee related .... I just got impatient.
Still, even if they fix the bowcaster relatively soon that'll be bonus enough for me not to wince too hard about building this baby too early. Even with it's crazy energy damage type and lack of armour piercing, she's a beauty for bleeds!
Good luck to you other wookiee weaponsmiths out there in your attempts to build a personal super bowcaster! I can tell you,I was worried like nothing else about the slice.

Broken may be the wrong word..
But heres the description of a bowcaster that ive always thought of when I think of Bowcasters:
"Star Wars: The Essential Guide to Weapons and Technology "
"A curious combination of modern and ancient technologies, the bowcaster, or "laser crossbow," is the traditional weapon of the Wookiees of Kashyyyk. While anachronistic to those accustomed to using blasters, a bowcaster is quite deadly in the hands of a skilled warrior such as Chewbacca, partner of the famed smuggler Han Solo.
The bowcaster is essentially a magnetic accelerator with twin polarizers that use alternating polarity pulses to accelerate a highly tensile metal bowstring and propel and explosive quarrel at extremely high speed. The fired quarrel has the appearance of an elongated blaster bolt because it is wrapped in an energy envelope that channels the quarrel's explosive force into the target. The result is a weapon less advanced than a blaster pistol yet delivers an equivalent amount of damage.
Tremendous strength is needed to **edit** the weapon, which notches the bowstring and loads a quarrel from the ammo cartridge. This primitive arming system limits the bowcaster's rate of fire and places great emphasis on the Wookiee's patience and marksmanship, since it may take several seconds for the warrior to get off another shot. Some Wookiees have modified their bowcasters by adding multiple bowstrings, dual bows, or, in the case of Chewbacca's bowcaster, an automatic recocking system. During the Imperial occupation of Kashyyyk, some Wookiees even bolted blasters to their bowcasters for added firepower.
Bowcasters are designed for effective use in Kashyyyk's dense jungles, with amazing stopping power -- for taking out the most dangerous predators -- but are short-range weapons with an optimum range of thirty meters and a maximum range of only fifty meters. The weapon can be disassembled and carried in a utility pouch; it can be put back together in less than a minute. Wookiees use bandoliers to carry power packs, canisters of blaster gas, and spare ammunition cartridges that hold six quarrels each.
A bowcaster can be fired manually by moving the reserve spring into position and fashioning a bowstring from a meter-long length of kthysh vine. (Many warriors carry a treated kthysh vine in their utility pouches for emergencies.) Used in this fashion, the bowcaster's range is cut to a mere thirty meters, but it can fire standard explosive quarrels or simple crossbow bolts carved from wood.
Hand-built by the master weapon crafters of Kashyyyk, bowcasters are bestowed to young Wookiees as they are completing adulthood rites of passage. This tradition has endured for thousands of years, and a warrior's bowcaster is considered a visible symbol of his or her courage and honor. These highly prized possessions are often engraved with clan markings and pictographs depicting a warrior's greatest accomplishments.
Imperial troops enslaved many of the great crafters during the occupation, but thanks to Kashyyyk's admittance to the New Republic, the great weapon builders are again free to continue making these magnificent weapons while diligently training new apprentices to carry on the proud tradition of bowcaster craftsmanship."
I currently use my Bowcaster as a replacement for a DLT20a, a high speed, low ham alternativeused to take out lairs and bases. By description, this should have greater stopping power (read ap) and the "bolt" that fires from the weapon is physical, so kenetic is a natural choice for damage type (rifleman have very few choices in type of damage for thier rifles, most being energy)
So, no, Bowcasters are not broken.. but i would like to see it become more of the wookiees defining weapon.
Ah good point.... you know whats funny, is I never read that text before and I am roleplaying a Wookiee Master crafter enslaved by the empire (I dont roleplay much but every little bit helps) I also hand craft all my bowcasters as I don't believe a wookiee would ever use a factory to mass produce them. I also Name each bowcaster after their owner to symbolize the honor of owning one.
ALso, I am curious what word deserved the edit, is "l o a d"(lets test" load ") a bad word? Load or arm are the only two words that fit in the space that edit is.

Well I guess the DEV's missed this when they were doing their resarch for SWG. Can someone forward this to them and maybe they will get the point, esp since us wooks can't wear armor.
