So if am I correct to assume that these have little/no effect on crafting(other than letting me craft items that require one), is there any reason to have one in my home as I see elsewhere? Do they store resources so they dont count against the item count(if so, how much can they hold?)? Would it be better to just get a droid with a crafting station in it already? And why does my hand hurt so much from clicking??

You get crafting stations with bonuses built in like crafting tools , i just brought one with 42% effectivnss in it which is far bettr then any tool. Also its nice to have something like this in a house of a crafter rather then carting out your droid everytime if only for roleplay reasons

Some of the more complex items also requires you to use a personal crafting station, i.e. not a public one.

This means you have to have a Station in your house to make these items. I think it's items with complexity higher than 25 that needs this, but i'm not certain about that.
