On my Radiant forum, I made just about every Master Weaponsmith weapon I could. You can check my post history to see my DPS on well over 50 weapons, however, when I did, what I understand DPS to be, that is, a median of min/max damage based on speed, I came up with some bloated numbers. Here is a cut and paste from my thread on the Radiant main forum. I could provide a lot of other examples based on ALL of these DPS's listed, but in choosing the PH, I think, unless my math is wrong, I am off and that SOE is inflating DPS on all weapons.

PLEASE DO POST BASE DPS, this is the only common ground that we can compare weapons too... What I have been able to craft, per weapon class, in respect to base DPS is as follows:

Fencer: Ryyk Blade 250.85 DPS ( can TKA use this also? )

Fencer: Stun Baton 248.42 DPS (must be Master Fencer)

Swordsman: Power Hammer 289.58 DPS (must be Master Swordsman)

Carbine: Elite Carbine 292.96 DPS (finally the Elite is the top Carb)

Melee: Blaster Fist (TKA) 216.87 DPS (VK's hit hardcore, lucky to get 120+ DPS)

Pistol: FWG5 just over 292 DPS (only needs Required Combat Level 54 - no Master Cert of ANY kind)

Pistol: Master Smuggler Renegage 285.79 DPS

Pistol: Master Squad Leader: Intimidater 291.79 DPS

Pistol: Master Bounty Hunter: High Capacity Scatter 278.67 DPS

(the big question here is will the FWG5 give you Smuggler/SL/BH Pistol Experience or do you have to use the Master Cert Pistol?)

Polearm: Vibro Lance 267.57 DPS

Polearm: Electric Polearm 210.66 DPS (a nice 2nd place Polearm with only 40 Combat Level Required)

Rifle: T21 293.84 DPS

Rifle: Jawa Ion Rifle 233.95 DPS (this is the only rifle that is a close 2nd - infact, pre-CU lasers do more DPS than new ones)

Special Heavy Weapon: Bounty Hunter LLC 177.01 DPS (nerfed, badly)

Special Heavy Weapons: Commando Plasma Flame Thrower 290.49 DPS

One BIG question I have is WHAT IS SOE using to calucate DPS? Obvious, Speed in any weapon is a constant, but what about min max?

Do they calculate the damage variable as the median value of min/max? I'd like to see SOE put up some SIMPLE algebra in their DPS formula. BECAUSE, with drastic min/max values, the TRUE DPS will ALSO have a range... follow me?

Example:

Power Hammer does 501-1011 Damage with 2.61 speed.

Ok, so you use a PH with 2.61 speed and hit for 501... that is 501/2.61 = 191.954 DPS

Ok, so you use a PH with 2.61 speed and hit for 1011 damage... that is 1011/2.61 = 383.525 DPS

To find a medium, you take the min DPS + the max DPS and divide by 2, this will be the 50% damage or average hit... THE TRUE DPS

191.954 + 383.525 = 403.479 times 50% (the true middle/average DPS) = 201.7395 DPS

201.7395 does not equal 289.58 DPS as reported by the weapon itself. If my math is off here, PLEASE correct me!!!!!

min+max/2xspeed = dps, close enough.

Why 2x speed?

(min+max/2)x speed, you can simplify to min+max/2xspeed

What I am misunderstanding is the 2x speed... ? yes, the min+ max/ 2x speed = 287.739

Its(Elemental +(Min+Max)/2)/Speed, or there abouts

Maybe I am just a bad player I don't know but to me speed (and there for dps) is not very important the only thing a fast weapon will do is eat up your action faster. A much more useful number to judge how good a gun is would be average damage divided by action cost or something similar.

Damage Per Second

((Min+Max)/2)/speed=Base DPS

example:

Min 596 Max 1130 Speed 2.45

596+1130= 1726, 1726 / 2= 863, 863 / 22.45= 352.24

Base DPS is 352.24

If you just spam the attack key you will average 352.24 points of damage per second of combat.

Your Mod DPS is calculated based on any proffesion modifiers. (ie increased general melee speed)

Raw damage is important, but if you are not hitting the enemy very fast you are doing less damage overall. More speed will use up your action much faster, but you can perform other actions faster and use more specials in a shorter time frame. (ie anti-Knock Down)

Finding a weapon with higher DPS means you have a moreoptimally balanced weapon. Also since all weapons are capped at some point for dmg and speed the better the base DPS the betteryou weapon is compared to others on the server.

Always look carefully at all stats on a weapon. Action cost can be important if you find yourself running out alot because of your fighting style. Accuracy can be important if you do not have a high enough level overall to offset misses. (ie trying to level an Elite Class proffession).

Also remember that a weapon with closer min and max values can often do more overall damage in battle. These weapons also tend to have higher DPS values.

Example:

Min 800 Max 1000 Speed 2.45

800 + 1000 =1800, 1800 / 2 =900, 900 / 2.73= 367.35

Base DPS= 367.35

As compared to the first example the second hammer will never hit for less than 800 points, whereas the first can hit for as low as 596. If a special causes 2x dmg that makes it 1600 compared to 1192 minimum damage.

Actually you dont have to spam specials. For example you should regen defensive moves faster based on weapon speed.

Ok, judging by crafted weapons I have seen stats on -

I come up with this formula to calculate DPS:

(((Min+Max)/1.9985)+Elem)/speed = DPS

It doesn't appear elemental damage takes a hit in the DPS at all.

Thats as close as I could get

oh..missed this one..yeah, somewhere along this line is what I'm thinking too cept I'm not quite seeing the whole "2" in the division by speed.

I've noticed this too. Or at least, a very small variation in damge.

In that case, how does min damage work? We don't have mitigation any more .. so what does it do?

Is per-shot weapon damage simply calculated from (max-min)/2 ?
