This guy was looking for a particular recent type of Diatium copper. Based on the stats of the copper and the schematic requirements, I determined that there was a better type of copper available.

His results seem to fly in the face of simple math. What gives?

Given that its only +1 extra to min dmg I would say its just down to pure dumb luck with how the chip fell with the way the decimanls probably work out etc. If he can repeat it see if he can get someone else to repeat it. To me it just seems like a rounding bug or just a fluke.

That's kind of what I was thinking. But do you agree that my math is correct? Even if we assume that the schem is wrong and the Min Dmg is 66% CD, 33% OQ, then it should still be one point less than the Asevate.

Ah well, I've been around this game long enough. I should expect the bizarre.

BoberFett... you have to remember, for power handlers, the gas and ore do not have conductivity.

What does this mean?

1. Requires 10 units of Polymer
2. Requires 5 units of Diatium Copper
3. Requires 5 units of Ostrine Carbonate Ore
4. Requires 8 units of Phrik Aluminum
5. Requires 16 units of Irolunn Reactive Gas

44 resources. Only 13 units have Conductivity.

Now, it's 66 / 33 (CO / OQ), and because 44 units have OQ, and only 13 units have CO, then the CO is worth a LOT more.

for the Diatum Copper, that 5 units count for 38% of the Conductivity. So, those 5 units count for 25% of the "total quality" of the weapon.

Here's how it breaks down:

1 unit of anything is worth 0.75% of the total result

OQ
Polymer : 10 / 44 : 7.5% of total PH Quality
Copper : 5 / 44 : 3.75% of total PH Quality
Ore : 5 / 44 : 3.75% of total PH Quality
Aluminum : 8 / 44 : 6% of total PH Quality
Gas : 16 / 44 : 12% of total PH Quality

1 unit of anything in the PH with CO is worth 5.07% of the total result

CO
Copper : 5 / 13 : 25.38% of total PH Quality
Aluminum : 8 / 13 : 40.62% of total PH Quality

(Due to rounding the total comes out to 99%)

So, now we'll go with how much 1 point of OQ is worth versus 1 point of CO on the copper, and the alum

Copper : 25.38% for CO : 1000 CO == perfect : 0.02538% increase per point of CO
Aluminum : 40.62% for CO : 1000 CO == perfect : 0.04062% increase per point of CO

and, for OQ
Polymer : 7.5% for OQ : 1000 OQ == perfect : 0.0075% increase per point of OQ
Copper : 3.75% for OQ : 1000 OQ == perfect : 0.00375% increase per point of OQ
Ore : 3.75% for OQ : 1000 OQ == perfect : 0.00375% increase per point of OQ
Aluminum : 6% for OQ : 1000 OQ == perfect : 0.006% increase per point of OQ
Gas : 12% for OQ : 1000 OQ == perfect : 0.012% increase per point of OQ

now, we'll take the two resources listed:

Asevate CD 713 OQ 866
Iesewi CD 768 OQ 753

Asevate: + 18.09594% for CO, + 3.2475% for OQ
Iesewi: + 19.49184 for CO, +2.82375 for OQ

Asevate : 21% increase
Iesewi : 22% increase

KABLAM, the Iesewi will increase you by 1%, which has a chance to round you up 1 point on damage!

Actually, some people ran some tests on this a while back, and found that the 66/33CO/OQ isn't exactly right. I don't remember what the numbers they found were, but I believe it came down somewhere in the range of 80/20 when all's said and done. It might have something to do with the way the numbers are actually crunched during assembly (i remember someone offering a counter-example of a possible equation, although i'm not sure whether it stood up or not), or it might just be that the proportions aren't quite right.

I really wish i could find that thread, cause i kinda sound like i'm making this up, but regardless, it's a good idea to keep in mind that all things being equal, you should go with the higher CO metal.

I just did that now Math is sooo much fun

I think I should write a program that you can dump resource stats into and it'll compare them for you, but I have the feeling someone did that already

OK, that's my error. I wasn't taking into account that the other resources are figured in before weighting CD and OQ. I was looking at the copper by itself, which isn't a valid comparison in this case.

Thanks fellas. Guess I better get myself some of that copper.

Hehe, that's MEEE!!

Fooman's tool says the Iesewi is better, and you know what, it was.

Even though the way I would normally calculate the resource myself shows the Asevete is better.

I think fooman's says CD 67 oq 33. Could the rounding be making this happen?

To answer your question, this IS repeatable, as I made a few with each one. The Iesewi came out 19 min, the asevete came out 18 min.
