Thread: WS Role in the Combat Revamp and what you would like to see.

Hey guys,

I have been thinking alot about this ever since I saw the sandbox sticky. And I would like to start a productive thread on what could be changed. Pleased don't add things that need to be fixed like stabilization serial numbers. This we know. Add what you think would really change WS for the better and help balance the GCW.

I think the balance has already begun and they have not told us. Our resource quality on Tarquinas has not been as good the back half of the year as it was the first half. Also, the exceptional component loot is down also. I am hereing less and less of weapons with the seriously outrageous stats. You know T21s with 700 max damage, and great speed. Vks over 180 max damage. Carbines with great stats. But I must say right now on Tarq we can make some awsome Laser rifles. Max damage capping out in the 450 range.

Also, in the combat rebalance I think it would be great to see what we can experiment on broken down even more. Mainly I think that damage should be seperate from speed. That way it give more diversity to the combatant. You might have a carbineer who wants to get major speed in his carbine to lay down fire and states in squad sized assualts. or you might have a carbineer who wants devestating damage, and states regardless of speed. Not only will it give the combatants more variety, but it opens up our market allowing us to specialize in equipment.

I also would like to see some sort of loot that would allow MWS to make either poison laced melee weapons for small DOT bonuses or poison laced ammo for a small DOT bonus. If this game were to mimick real life we would see this. they used to poison tip arrows and swords all the time. Also, lets see some radioactive enhanced HVY WPNs to put the hurting on turrets and such. Balance the use of them ofcourse with major inhibitors but make it an option.

Finally, let a MWS make a CM area effects better by making biological/chemcial weapons in cooperation with them.

Add away guys! Or discuss...

The number one thing I would like to see in the revamp is :

The need for speed.

A third of my stock (speed sliced) doesnt sell. As speed doesnt matter. Most top end weapons have their speed made worthless.

If I make a lovely 400 damage T21 and get a speed slice it sells for less (almost) than an unsliced T21...as it still has a chance to get a damage slice.

Now I see 3 different ways to tackle this.

Change the combat mechanics so that speed is not modified by skills/tapes on specials.

Change the combat mechanics so that speed is always a factor even for taped/power-up'd masters

Allow smugglers to choose what slice they want by using a new variation of a tool, where its quality matters. If they use this instead of the regular tool, they can choose what to modify, the following things occur however, the max slice is 30% and theres a 1/50 chance of a critical fail...weapon damaged/no further slice.

The second part I would like to see is :

Make differences count

There are a number of carbines/pistols/rifles etc that are just worse than other guns in the same cert range. Give each gun more distinct attributes. Perhaps a Tusken Rifle can have higher AP than a T21 but less damage and of a different type, make the range on some guns more dramatically different etc.

what i would want to see more in all wepons in general is a faster decay time or more mobs using atks that dmg the wepons for the only perpos of money making. I'm fealing kinda like my RL friend whos an archutech made some really good creds when pc town's came in affect but know is poor only because people havnt really boght a house in several month's.

IMHO i do believe wepons shold decay, any one else wants to give there opinion?

Yeah guys keep it coming...

Bob I agree, with speed tapes, and melee combat weapons it doesnt matter what the speed is on a wpn. A fencer moves way to fast regardless. I would also would like to see Smugglers be able to slice the HAM costs on weapons also...

I'd like to see people using more than just T-21's, VK's, Laser Carbs, Geo Pistols, Stun Batons, and Scythes.

With just MWS, we've got 14 standard pistols we can make (not counting the Launcher Pistol or loot schematics). But the only one's that sell out of those are FWG5's and Scout Blasters. Sometimes a DX2 here and there.

It'd be nice to see a larger variety of weapons being used.

(anyone remember Princess Leia killing a stormie in one shot with a CDEF at the beginning of Ep. 4??)

Or turn quests like the scythe one into something like ASs do to get their RIS Schem, because looted schems are the biggest pain in the ass, especially ones with less than 3 uses, and also the fact that only one per char thing or two per char for the scythe thing is totally insane.

I actually dig this alot, and will drive prices down too as long as they remain in balance with all the other weapons...or raise the resource/geo comp requirements...same with geo/dxr6b rifle schems..etc...

Might even lead to specialized weaponsmiths which could be cool. You have your main smiths that sell a little or a lot of everything, but other smiths that are not in it for total market control could specialize in scythes more effectively (or whatever looted schem weapon), without having to rely on incoming schems.

I like the idea of the specialized and generic WS...

We have three WS's in our guild, I prefer to make melee weapons, the second does ranged and the third does everything. It was an informal arrangement at first, but it's worked out quite well. We can each specialize our resource collecting, and when there's nothing good spawn for specialty items we all pool our lots and harvest it all.

I also agree that I should be allowed to put my points in the STAT I want, since every melee guy likes his/her weapons built to suit their playstyle. I'd like to tailor my weapons to those people.

I'd also like to see the weapon schems we already have become useful again. I've made some nice Clevers...how many ppl do you see using them? Everyone wants a damn scythe..yay...woo flippin hoo. What about the crap we can already make?

New isn't always better, I saw revive the old and make ALL weapons more useful, I have a vendor fully stocked with VK's VB's PH's SB's and some Pikes....are the other draft schems just for looks?

  1. Grenades and munitions need to be balanced. That is, they need to not suck. They need more charges, and (possibly) be easier to craft. In addition, all grenades other than the C12 should NOT becerted in the Commando tree, IMHO.

  2. Each weapon in our inventory needs to be "good". It's hard to quantify that term, but that's the most general way I can put it. There needs to be a potential customer for everything we can make, particularly junk no one uses right now like the Tusken or Power5.

  3. We need to give each weapon a unique identity. The DLT20 and DLT20a are the same bloody weapon (poor schematic placement notwithstanding). The scythe and the Hack have the same crafting requirements (???). The DL44 will always be better than the Metal DL44 b/c of resource caps, thus making the DL44 useless. All of these need to change, IMHO.

  4. Weapon certs need to better match up with weapon schematic placement in the WS tree. I can't make a laser rifle until Firearms 4. But a Rifleman will start wanting that Rifle at Rifles 2 (manyhours worth of work on the fledgling WS' part vice a few minutes for the aspiring Rifleman).

  5. Weapon certs themselves need to be re-arranged. Why is the second best rifle certed in a box that's so easy to get? Why are VKs certed at TKN (this was a knee-jerk change)? The entire certification system needs to be examined and re-worked.

That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

In addition, I disagree with the original poster's comments about DOTs. In my opinion, DOT attacks are one of the biggest problem with PvP. DOTs of all kinds -- be they CM poison ora mind fire pistol -- circumvent normal PvP reduction/mitigation rules, and are extremely difficult to remove. They are a negative influence on fun PvP and I, for one, would like to see them removed from the game entirely. Not that this will happen.

Weapons with DOTs need to be removed.

Edit: Or atleast remove the DOTs.
