Thread: Repaired a weapon and it removed the slice?

I was randomly wandering around in Coronet last night and someone asked me to repair their VK's. I agreed and repaired them and the message was "repaired with minor blemishes". I handed the VK's back and the person claimed that they were not the same VK's because the max damage dropped from 191 to 129. This caused a good deal of consternation and unpleasantness.

The item did have a max damage of 191 before I repaired it, and afterwards it was 129. But the repair was successful based on the text. What happened?

My guess is that somehow repairing it removed the slice. Is this possible?

Once a weaon gets below 25% the stats start to decrease on it, repairing these items can sometimes lead to them not recovering their original stats ending up in it being worthless.

I no longer repair weapons below 30% I tell the owner they should buya new weapon.

and if the weapon was 129 base dmg even with 35% dmg slice it'd be at 174, so if the weapon was 191 dmg it couldnt be 129 base dmg, but more like 140+....it lost quality not the slice

Do you happen to remember if the knucklers were Yellow before you repaired them? I can't remember if it is still the case or not, but it used to be when you repaireda weapon that had a powerup on it, the powerup poofed after the repair. Part of me wants to say this has changed, but I cannot remember for sure. Other than that, yeah .. if it was below 25% condition (or under 200) then it might not have recovered its full stats .. although I can't remember repairing a weapon where the stats were reduced from low condition and the stats came out WORSE than they were before I repaired the weapon.( i.e. normal dmg is 100-200, current dmg is 50-150 due to low condition, and after repairing it the condition went to 40-125 .. never seen that)

This has happened to me twice (both times on my own weapons fortunately).

I attributed it to there being a power up attached when I repaired, and that this some how screws up the stats when the server returns the updated condition stat. I know make sure to remove power up before repairing.

To all those saying "I only repair above 30%" or whatever, can you please tell me how you avoid a loss in overall con? Personally I wait (and tell my customers to wait) until 25% or below before attempting repairs and have a 95% success rate. Also the way I see it why bother repairing at like 500/900 when the con can drop to 600? Instead get the money's worth from the weapon and fix it when it's on it's last legs.

If it ain't broke then don't fix it...

Thanks for all of the replies, everyone.

Yes, it had a power-up on it. Which is how I think the owner got to 191 with it.

I may be off on the numbers a bit. I really only glanced at them. I received the weapon, noted that it was yellow (this didn't actually register as a potential problem), noted the maker and the damage and speed stats (which is one of the nice things about repairing weapons - you get to see what others are making) - which I recall to have been AS: 2.2, max dam: 191 - pulled up my handy 99.6% repair tool and clicked repair. It said "repaired with minor blemishes" and handed it back with a /tell that mentioned that it was repaired with minor blemishes and that's when I had my customer start yelling at me that I swapped it for a worse weapon and then he got a friend involved and things deteriorated from there. We finally resolved our differences with me giving away a free krayt scatter (and a nice one at that).

Yes, I could have held my ground and done a lot of yelling and ranting and raving but it's a game. No matter what I did, the guy with the messed up VK's would have walked away annoyed. We are all supposed to be having fun. A krayt scatter is a small price to pay for everyone being content.

There's a thread on here about irritating things about being a weaponsmith that mentions mostly customers saying silly things - and it's amusing because I have had people as me a lot of silly things as well - but as far as I'm concerned the truly most annoying thing about being a weaponsmith is repairing things. It seems to me that a master weaponsmith should have a significantly higher chance of repairing a weapon than a non-weaponsmith and I don't seem to see that this is the case. After destroying a couple of weapons (which I then replaced for free using stock from my shop), I bought a bunch of repair tapes. I haven't messed up a repair since, but this is probably just a matter of luck based on other postings here.

After this latest fiasco, I give up on repairing things all together.

Thanks for all the replies. I appreciate your guidance.

at 25% the weapon actually looses stats and the dev's stated that a weapon below 50% is harder to fix (for whatever that is worth). I figure 30% because this way they have a little margin before it hits 25% as finding a MWS is not always the easiest of things to do, also I have been noticing that a weapon repaired at 50% looses less overall con on a good weapon than one which is much lower around 30%.

if its at 500 and it drops to 600 that is still better than it was and I guess that on Valcyn weapons are not expensive so even a total loss doesn't hurt (unless its enchanced etc)!
