Thread: Optionals and factories

I've finally made it to Master, and I've started trying to "experiment" with weapons. I intend to specialize in melee, and for starters, began making One Handed Curved Swords.

I wanted to use the (optional) cores - one style experimented fully for accurracy, and one for damage.

My question is, how do youuse a factory to make a weapon with an optional component? Do you make the best component you can, run it in the factory, then use those to make a sword schematic, adding the mass produced cores to the factory run?

Thanks,

Seena

Yep, every couple of months or so. Or whenever a new resource spawn make a major difference, It's time to redo schematics.

I make 3-5 schematics for various power handlers, 1-2 for each of the other sub-components.

Then run off 100 or so of each in order to build the actual weapon schematics.

Power handlers are used in greater quantity than all other sub-components, so it's good advice to spread those out amongst your schematics. One serialed for T21's, another serial for Jawa Ions and Dxr6's, yet another schematic forLaser Rifles/Carbines, and another for all single power handler varieties etc.

Thanks Strife!

Can the schematic be re-used?

Yes and no. Yes if you didn't run the schematic through all the uses that you set it for, no if you ran through all of the schematic. An example would be I set the schematic to make 200 Rifle barrels. I decide I really only need about 100, so I stop it when I could and it made 110 barrels. You now can either:

1. Leave the schematic in the factory for later use

or

2. Pull the schematic and store it in your datapad for later use so that you could use the factory.

But if you have the factory make 200 barrels, and it completed 200, the schematic did it's job and it's now gone and has been deleted.

Hehe I'm afraid not. When you create the 1000shot schematic it sets a number up. Everytime an object is created from that schematic it ticks off one of the 1000. So if you used 999 you would only be able to make . . . 1 more.

Awesome -- thanks so much for your help guys!

Can I be a PIA and ask another question?

The advanced reinforcement cores - are they just additional "oomph" requiring special metals that you substitute in any weapon using a reinforced core?

Yes, anything that calls upon a "normal" power handler, sword core, etc. - can be substituted with an advanced component.

If you can make a decent advanced components, 95% of the time you should use it instead of the normal one.

That 5% of the time is selective, using 8 advanced projectile mechanisms on a RL is just wrong. But using an Advanced Blaster Rifle barrel along with a APBH with a normal 0-0-0 scope on a Laser rifle, is good reasoning.

Also, the process I described earlier uses 1000 use schematics. Due to storage constraints, and the constant resource shifts. I find it best to make weapons as you go, using schematics you have already made. If 10 laser rifles sell in one day, but only 2 fwg5's. Make 15 more laser rifles, but only 2 more fwg5's.

That way if some *fantastic* copper spawns, you're only out 15 Laser rifles of uber Link-steel, vs. a whole factory run. I suppose my other problem is that I refuse to sell anything that is not my best, so ifa new resource shifts in, i'll destroy my current stock rather than sell it. Counter-productive yes, but it makes a solid customer base, when they know that your weapon will always be 1-3 points more damage, or 2-3 less Ham.

Not sure what you mean Strife - that using advanced projectile mechanisms is "just wrong" - but, I'm only making melee weapons... so perhaps this doesnt apply?

Thanks again for all your help : ))))

I'm pretty much working on a different theory. Part of that is because I tend to have fairly huge resource stocks part of that is also the barring the spawning of a god-like steel (or theirolunn that you other servers have had) there's really almost nothing that can spawn that will do more than push a 1 point shift in a small subset of weapon types.

Add to that the amount of use you get out of certain standard components (like ABPH's for instance) and alot can be said for doing large runs of them at a time and just running the whole factory run. That way if you need to do a run of 20 laser rifles, you don't have to do a run of 60 ABPHs first. That's two wasted hours.

Now for some components? APFMs, APPB, APRBs, ACDMs etc, it doesn't make sense to do full runs of 1000. Even with the number of weapons I stock, I'm generally not going to have to have a sudden unforseeable need for 100 sword or melee cores.

But APBHs, and BPHs are definetly something that you can go through alot of on a regular basis. Particularly if you do a lot of business in T21s, Jawa's, DXs or in Commando Consumable weapons. You should generally use BPHs for your commando consumables, and PFMs, but if you have a backstock of ABPHs and/or APFMs and a new run of resources comes along? You can always feed them into commando weapons.

(Commando weapons are like stew... stew is a great way to get rid of leftovers, and they almost always come out tasting good no matter what leftover was used for them. There are never enough HPBCs, or RLs to go around and they'll always sell. This doesn't mean that I don't use top resources in them, because I do, but you can make use of some 'leftover' resources in them and still have a top-o-the-line product. Where a lost of 3 points of damage or .2 points of speed can reduce your mainline weapons to detritus.) I've only had to do this once, turning about 200 ABPHs over into Heavies, but that was also a personal choice rather than necessity. Because at that point we were talking about .01 seconds of speed .

Just my two cents.

yep if you are focussed on melee its not that important to you.

RL need alot of resources and components to make, using adv components is a waste because there is no real definitive benefit in doing so (and extra +20 dmg to a 6k dmg weapon is a waste).

For Melee adv = good always, so if you can make adv components do so as they will provide a definite benefit to the end product.
