Thread: Building the Perfect Beast

I've been a Master Weaponsmith for about two months. My weapons are on par with most of the newer smiths. I did some broswing and found that the established smiths are making weapons that are slightly slower but do a great deal more damage (rifles and carbines). I'm looking at trying to be an equal. Up to this point I had neglected stocks and advanced weapon scopes. It appears that I really need to start using these item to get my guns up to the standards that players are looking for.

I'm interested in how you build a rifle/carbine. What weapons do you use stocks on? Do you use advanced blaster or projectile barrels? Can basic scopes and stocks provide improvement without encumbering the weapons with significantly higher HAM costs or speed reduction?

What do you use to build your perfect Beast? (rifle/carbine)

Just some other observations:

I find myself impressed by weapons that players seldom use. The E11 is an example of an underutilized rifle because the damage numbers dont appear to be all that high but it's got a medium armor penetration. It's also one of the faster rifles out there. What make this weapons appear inferior to the players? I really do not understand why the spraystick is considered a rifle. The SG82 model is probably one of the most unappealing looking weapons in the game.(It resembles an incresibly crooked phallus which is not something that i feelcomfortable wearing outside the raincoat )Why are the Tusken and Jawa rifles identified as such when they should just be Energy (Tusken...just a side note Luke had something like this weapon in Episode 4) or Ion? ( Jawas are not known to manufacture anything. They usually use existing technology and modify it for their own designs...The same can be said of Tuskens)

I'm generally unimpressed with most carbines. The EE3 is something that reminds me of a slow FWG5. The Elite Carbine is also something of a mystery to me. If I'm remembering this right it's on par with the E11 carbine but may have a slight edge in penetration. The E11 carbine appears to be something worth looking as for a low cert weapon. I'm not sure if the bulk of the player base understands how the AP value works though.

Given the choice between style over substance. I'll take a sandwich.

Considering the amount of ease for a player to recieve 2400+ buffs for a measly 10k credits, I almost always suggest my customers use a Player made Adv Stock on special orders for Rifles and Carbines. My current model comes in at 40min 40 max dmaage, with a speed mod of 0.374, so although its slower, thats a big lift to the min damage on any weapon, and the max damage is always welcome.

As a side note, whenever I do a factory run of T21s they are always made with Stocks.

Personally I dont use Scopes, and until some serious hard data comes to hand on the benefits of +Ideal range, I probably wont start anytime soon. The only time I do use scopes is for special orders where the customer wants a modified look to the weapon.

Two words:

Advanced Stock.

Gives you 40+ more damage at a cost of around .3 speed and 29 HAMs across the board.

Regarding the E11 rifle....riflemen (masters), as a general rule, dont care about speed. Same can be said for Pistoleers...cant remeber about carbineer....was a long time ago. TKMs....anything 2ish speed Fencers, same. Pikemen and Swordsmen look at speed somewhat, as it takes alot of SEAs for wither prof to hit the speed cap.

Most people (probably 75% at least) only pay attention to the max damage. They tend to ignore the damage spread between min and max damages, which is actually more important.

So back to the E11......it's only AR2 and less max dam than a T21. Most rifleman are after mobs with AR3...thusly, a High damage T21 is the answer. With my 7.6 speed T21, having only +6 in Rifle speed attachements, I spam HS3 once a second.

Sorry if this ain't making much sense....up all night playin', smokin', chuggin' coffee.

Rule of thumb...fast weapons for non-masters, used to grind. Generally, after mastery, folks dont care much about speed. Exception to that, as a above, being swordsmen/pikeman. HAM - no one cares, due to buffs and foods. My current T21 is 109 mind HAM. I spam HS3 or SS2 all day long with two brandies and a capane as back-up.

One thing I'd suggest....most smart master swordsman like to run around with a 2H heavy cleaver....saves wear and tear on the scythe and PH when crushing lairs. If you can make really good 2H Cleavers, you'll get alot of repeat business from them.

Most masters do not care all that much about speed true. The exceptions are bounty hunters and commandos when it comes to heavy weapons. Since neither professions speed bonuses can truely cover up poor speed. So nonstocked llcs and flamethrowers can sell, and sometimes they get requested. These professions are counting on the lower ham and the faster speed to get in a couple more shots, as opposed to a stronger shot that might miss.

I used to scope alot but only discerning players see the true value in scopeing. The range ideal increases accuracy at ideal range meaning you hit more. The wound chance on the other hand is more apt to increase wound damage. Across the board. Only valid if you are in pvp, and only valid on a weapon that has a natural dot. Sadly the scopes do need to be looked at wound damage should be more intimate to the damage done. A 500 point hit that wounds should do something like 50 wounds. Instead of twelve.

That's not it, necessarily. Stocks certainly improve the damage, but there's another factor if he's done it for only about two months...

The problemis that they (older weaponsmiths, that is)have some older resources that are a lot better than anything I've got, but I don't know what they are or anything, since SWGCraft's database isn't that old....so though I've got the best stuff the database currently lists, there's something else that's older and better.
