Thread: Make Bowcasters Craftable by all Weaponsmiths

I am not a weaponsmith but I am a wookie. My greatest beef with being a wookie is that our traditional weapon, the bowcaster, is a piece of junk compared with most of the other weapons. What is even worse is the fact that it can only be crafted by wookies. Now I have made a few for myself, but they are garbage and even a friend who was a wookie weaponsmith made one and it was like a CDEF carbine, useless.
So this is my proposition, let all weaponsmiths craft bowcasters when they get to Master level, let them tweak it up, maybe not to a T21 (definetly not) but since it is race specific it would not effect the value and saleability of other weapons. I would love to use my bowcaster 85% of the time but it is such a piece of garbage that I haven't taken it out for like months. In fact I went to commando because it wasn't doing any significant damage.
So please, could you make the bowcaster a little more useful and let all weaponsmiths craft it. Oh and a plug for the armor, do the same. Think about it Mon Cals can make the best starships in the galaxy but they can't make a bowcaster, go figure.

The problem with keeping the bowcaster lower in stats has nothing to do with the fact it's only wookiee craftable - it's because it requires no certification to use. The stats must be kept lowish in order to keep things in line with the fact it requires no marksman for a wookiee to use whatsoever.
The solution you want requires either adding the bowcaster certification in rifleman or introducing a second bowcaster schematic whose certification is in rifleman.
That being said you can still tool out bowcasters to be pretty nifty. If you made your own without weaponsmith skills then you were not able to experiment on them which is why they are poor. Master weaponsmith made bowcasters aren't too shabby, and you can enhance it (though this is expensive) with loots, of course.

I wish we could trade across galaxies cause I have lots of Krayt tissue but no Wookie weaponsmith to make me a Krayt bowcaster.
Kauri seems to have emptied out since publish 7 so I think I may well be up the creek. I really like the idea of using my caster but the other fault i see with it, unless this has changed, is it's rate of decay. It seems like it decays faster than any other weapon.
Maybe that is what we should petition for is the ability to trade across servers.

Trading across servers would cause so many problems it's not even funny. I can just imagine the extortion that would happen if resource miners in one server suddenly had all servers available to them.
Ask around, you'd be surprised. I've been a masterwookiee weaponsmith since last August and to this day when wookiees ask if I make them and I reply yes, have done so for many months now, they are shocked and say they've been looking for months themselves to find a master wookiee weaponsmith.

I love the Bowcaster. I can make a pretty decent bowcaster that has some nice damage and speed.

I find that the bowcaster works well inside 50 meters the best. Im sorry you cant find any good bowcasters, but im sure there are some out there somewhere if you really look around.
Just because you cant find them doesnt mean we should let everyone be able to make them. I wouldnt think they wouldwant to anyway, as they arent the fastest selling weapon I make.
Keep lookin around, im sure you will find one someday that will surprise you. They are a very nice weapon when you have the right resources, as is the case with all weapons.

being a no cert weapon, the bowcaster is an awesome piece of equipment.
My casters come out to 5.2speed 291max damage. I have no combat skills, and my bowcaster is truly my best friend. It is so reliable, even unsliced I can mow through the Nyms outside kaadara in 1 or 2 shots without even getting hit.
I had a much better krayt Bowcaster but I failed a repair on it
It was 4.3speed 526max damage without a power up. It was one amazing weapon.
Making it so every smith cna make it will ruin the uniqueness of the caster. It will kill Wookiee lore, and make it pointless.
Only wookiees know how to make them, and only wookiees are strong enough to use them. Nuff said.

yup... why would we want the secrets of bowcaster crafting and design to fall into the hands of outsiders... it is our gift from Kashyyyk and ours alone..

Truely it would cause many many problems... esp since resources are unique per server...

Wookiees have enough problems right now, leave them the one thing that makes them unique.

Well, being a Wookiee Master Weaponsmith playing on Kauri, if you still want a Krayt Bowcaster I can make you one, if you provide me with the Krayt Tissues. Just /tell or mail Gaarowaroo and if I'm online I'll make it immediately or as soon as I get to my shop on Dantooine.

Hate to tell ya this, but unless it was changed in the last 2 publishes.... bowcasters DO have a cert. You have to have the first box in Rifles in the Marksman tree to avoid the non-cert message. I thought they were non-cert too, till I built on and tried to equip it & got The Message. Got the first Rifles box, and all was good.

Really? That has to be new if that's the case. A lot of wookiees are around that do not have any marksman and rely on the bowcaster, at least ever since I started which was many moons ago.
