Thread: *Cry* giving up weaponsmith.... maybe...
I dropped it after roughly 5 months. It was hard, but i just had a fire sale to clear it all out. Made sure to make a few of everything for myself and tossed em in my bank box. (ya never know, right?) The resources i held on to, and gave most away to friends that decided to go the weaponsmith route. Also, when i dropped it, i dropped the whole skill set at once. (hehe no looking back then when you see those projectile barrels again)
I just found it took too much time hunting resources instead of hunting with friends to be a weaponsmith and a casual gamer. Others may have been more successful at it, and more power to them, i just couldn't keep it up.
I did the same thing a few months ago, and have really enjoyed trying out the various combat professions. To get rid of the old resources I didn't want anymore, I just put them all on a vendor and made a postabout it onmy galaxy's trade forum. I sold nearly all of it to other weaponsmithsin just 1 day, andmade lots of extra credits to fund my combat training.
I'd recommend keeping a fraction of the best resources for yourself (as well as 1 factory)and making schematics of the weapons you plan on using in the nearfuture. That way you'll have a supply of free weapons for a while. ![]()
Also, if you are unsure about completely dropping weaponsmith right away, only drop a couple WS skills at a time when you need the points for something else. And you could keep some Skevon, Hydron-3, and Thoranium Steel in storage in case you'd ever want to grind back up to master WS again quickly.
Hope that helps some.
Ya, it can sure seem like a second job. SOE absolutely missed it if they think staying by the crafting station with an occasional romp in the woodsto check harvesters is "content". However there are two things you may want to mull over. 1) Weaponsmith can contribute to the society in which you live in a way no other can. You are a positive and constructive member of that group and maybe the answer is not giving it up but limiting it a bit and doing something else for yourself. 2) As an idea I started a toon on a different server (Tempest) that I am slowly building toward Rifleman-CH and when I get too much of crafting I go there for release. In the end, weaponsmithing is about helping others and interacting with others is why we all play MMORGs.
Anyway, good luck no matter what you choose!
I feal the pain my first character is a master bounty hunter, and the little bit of crafting I could do with him was fun. I had killed everything once been everywhere. Killed around a thousand people in pvp. It was time for a change. I started Bh when it was a complete crime of a grind. So did not want to give it up. Answer bought a second copy of the game, and started a second character on my server. That way I have one character for crafting, and the second for fighting.
By the way most of the uber weaponsmiths do this. Have one character for fighting and another for crafting. Sad that swg makes crafting so rigorous, and yet so unfulfilling.
