Thread: Newbie seeks advice about guns

I need advice about types of guns please.

I am a newbie scout/artisan but obviously took marksman to try and survive in the wild.
At the start I was given the basic CDEF pistol but was advised to buy a scout pistol.
This I did , but when I equip it I get a message something like I am not qualified and damage will be greatly reduced.

Can anyone recommend a pistol that is ok for newbies but does a decent amount of damage

Thanks,
Mirth

Indeed you are a Newb like we all once were lol.

First things first look at the skilltree. It will tell your current skills and each box has a certification/special attacks. You need to be certified/have the required skill in order to be able to use a weapon. I beleive Scout Blaster you will need either Pistol 1 or 2 on marksman I dont recall.

You should try the marksman/pistoleer forums as this board discusses crafting weapons.

I am pretty positive certs for scouts are in pistols 1. I never really used scouts though, I always preferred DL 44's or Power 5's. Most DL 44's are just a tad slower than scouts but do more damage, especially at 8 meters where most of the fighting takes place, same with Power 5's. I think you get DL 44 cert in pistols 1 and the Power 5 in pistols 3. Scouts are good for longer ranges but as a target closes you would want to switch to the FWG5, DL 44 or Power 5 for better accuracy at close ranges.

The Power5 is horrible and I don't think anyone actually makes them, except those crazy guys who make EVERY WEAPON EVER including broken crap like the beam rifle.

Scout has low HAM, good accuracy (including a positive to-hit at 0m unlike most other guns), and high average damage making it one of the best all-around low level pistols.

I never had a problem with them. I see them being used all the time. Scout Blasters or overrated.

To a noob, I would suggest using the CDEF until Pistols 2, then use DH17 for the rest. Saves you money, using a CDEF through pistols 2 is very doable and doesn't take that long really. Once you get the DH17 you'd think you've gone to marksman heaven.

Get a crafted CDEF (60 max damage), the one you get at the start is like 30 max damage, get novice marksman then spam overcharge shot - it's not like you care for the CDEF and the HAM is soo low that you can probably spam overcharge all day....

Work up a couple of boxes then get a better gun, whatever tree you go for..

If I remember correctly beam rifles are not in any skill tree. There is no-one with a cert for them, yet we still have the schematic for it. Go figure.
