Thread: What sort of Rifle could I expect if I put all my points into damage?

I am looking to craft a powerful Alpha Strike weapon but I'm not sure how effective this would be. I am currently heading for Master Weaponsmith and intend to get AAs/CAs to cap my experimentation points. If I were to put ALL my points into damage for the subcomponents and the final product then what sort of damage could I expect? My main goal with this is to get a very tight minimum-maximum damage spread to ensure I can hit very hard even against targets with high defense. I know SAC and Speed will be bad but since it'll only be used once or twice at the start of the fight I don't see this as a major issue.

Couple of things...

First, you wouldn't be able to put All your points into damage, your resources limit how much you can experiment on each line. I would be surprised if you could put more than 9 points into damage especially if you got an amazing or 2 while experimenting.

Second, experimenting for damage on the subcomponents will do very little, the return of damageper point is very little. I guess if you maxed out the damage on the subs you might get say an extra 20 or so damage on the final weapon.

Why not just use krayttissues on a rifle (120+ or higher max damage), craft it to 1100 or more damage and then get it sliced to 1183 which is virtually damage capped? You would also be able to SAC cap it with little problem and then use it for the whole fight rather than just a couple of opening shots.

There is really no way to tighten the min - max ratio on crafted weapons. Min is pretty much 50% of max, adding an enhancement only opens the gap further. Crafting the weapon as you described will give you at best 20 or so more points of damage to min/max at a great penalty to speed/SAC. You could also use looted stocks to add some damage as well. With all variables figured in you wont really see much difference in actual combat damage though.

Like the above weaponsmith stated you would be better off creating one enhanced weapon. First get yourself the required looted enhancements, either Krayt Tissue or Power Cells and looted Scopes for the nice speed mod. Secondly, play around with your componets(non enhanced)and final combine until you can create a weapon that will maximize the enhancers you intend to use.

Lets say you have 180 Power Cells with -8 SAC and your intention is to create an advanced laserrifle that you can damage slice for 8%. Your goal would be to craft a base weapon that is 915 ish max with an SAC of 90 and all other points into speed. If you add on the value of the Power Cells you cap SAC and end up with 1095 max damage. 1095 * 1.08 = 1182.6. Min damage should be around 494 when sliced.

Option 2 would be to aim for as close to max damage cap as you can get without a slice. On Intrepid I can craft an ALR to about 986 max 90 SAC with no enhancements. Add on the Power Cells to get SAC capped and 1166 max. A 2% damage slice would exceed the max cap so not sure if it would go or not. Min damage would be around 493, 503 if the 2% damage slice can go.

I'm not 100% sure on the slicing numbers, they may differ from what I have used as an example.

I'm assuming you mean by alpha strike weapon that you'll take your opening shot with it and switch to something else. So, with that assumption, all I would really recommend is using a looted stock from npc bounty missions.

If you want both min and max to be high, and don't care about speed, I think the best bet is to use a Krayt tissue that will get your max just high enough that you'll still have room for an 8% damage slice.
