Forgive me if this is a redundant question, I have searched for an answer.
I understand there are max damage caps for all weapons, but what I don't understand is the slicing cap.
If a weapon exceeds a certain DMG, it can't be damage sliced?
So for a weaponsmith, wouldn't it be wise for the max dmg of the weapon to be under the slice dmg cap, so you can get it sliced for damage? Then you can spend your experimentation pts on sac / speed / accuracy instead of damage when crafting the weapon. OR experiment damage to a few pts below the dmg slicing cap, and put the other points into the rest.
Or, just keep making weapons max dmg and just get speed slices?
Does this make sense?
Here's an example, assuming the max dmg slice you can get is 8% (i'm probably wrong about that)
High Cap Scatter max dmg 948
948*.08=76 (rounded up)
so the max dmg you want to shoot for is 872. if you gohigher than that, you can't slice the gun for damage.
So experiment til you hit ~ 872 and then put the extra pts in something else
We should end up with a very low SAC, high accuracy, low speed and dmg capped after 100% customization
please advise!

Why would you want to not cap the damage with the initial crafting?
If you can do so, then it's done. Then 100% of the slicing can be for speed. If you leave it not capped for the purpose of being able to damage slice it, then you've just wasted 20% customization and can no longer get the speed sliced as much.
Experienced weaponsmiths will attend to the SAC first and foremost,
I fail to see the logic in leaving a weapon purposefully below the cap.
Maybe I'm a little dense. Or tired. Both?

Okay, I'm definitely dense and definitely tired. I just posted a half-written message. And I don't have the postcount to edit on this account yet. And I don't feel like trying to correct it here. I give up.

First of all you need to take into consideration that slices (as far as ive understood) is calculated from the min dam and not the maz dam.
When you put less points into dam the min dam will also automatically be lower thus requering higer slices for capping (if you get my drift Im dead tired here, so I might be rambling a bit)
I am however palying around with the thourght of making some highend sac capped weapons for later dam slices, just to see how people would embrace them... Dunno if they would be a succes thou ![]()

the purpose of the slicing cap is this:
right now it would take approximately a 210dmg tissue to cap a laser rifle on my server. with no slicing cap, the same can be done with a 130-150dmg tissue, which drops far more frequently than a 210dmg tissue set. this way it keeps the CRAFTED weapons as the true high end, and not the SLICED ones, which would devalue the market because it would become flooded. i do have issue with the slicing cap, though, because i have an issue with caps in general...

sorry i tend to ask confusing and badly worded questions. Let me clarify:
Crafted Krayt Scatter
380-937
2.08 speed
83 SAC
Can't be sliced for damage, stuck at 937
Before 100% customization speed will be capped, yes you could slice for something other than dmg/speed I know.
But, the weaponsmith could of got a lower SAC(cap is 65) rather than experimenting for damage.
After 100% customizationpossibly ending up with a higher max damage and lower sac than the above stats.
Right?

well I can answer you that the sac could have gone as low as 65 yes
As far as I know slices depends on min dam which would also be lower when focusing on sac first.
However I think youd get a better answer on the smuggler forum as they have dealt more with slices than most of us in here has (exceptoion of course the WS/Smugglers)
