Weaponsmith Archive

I looted a sword core the other day. I must master fencer for a holo and will probably keep it afterward. If I want a sword made by a weaponsmith. Should I take this to a weaponsmith and let him use it to make my sword? I've always just purchased weapons off of vendors. I didn't know if this would make much difference in the weapon. I don't remember the stats on it. any advice would be appreciated.
