Thread: New Master Weaponsmith can't compete in the uber market

So I decided to stop holo grinding and go back to what I like best, crafting. I chose WS because it looked fun and profitable. Unfortunately what I realize now is that on my server (kettemore) there is no room for the new WS. If I'm not stoking the absolute best items enhanced with the best loot drops no one even looks twice at my stuff.

I have no means to gather theseloot drops as i'm hoping to get master merchant and a bit of rifleman so I can fight when I get bored of crafting. My guild is not into kryat hunting and loot drops we mostly roleplay. I dont' have the funds to go buying up large quantities of loot items either. My shop is visited regularly so I can't blame customer traffic.

So is there something I'm missing? Is there some kind of best selling item I should be concentrating on? Should I specalize in 1 type of weapon or vary my selection? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

i would make alot of lower tier weapons and put them on the bazars in the starting cities. This way the new people coming in will see your weapons. Then when they need better ones they look at their existing weapon and see your name. If you have to give weapons to new people, It helps them and they will always check your stuff first over anyone elses. Go around to all the vendors and jot their prices down on their weapons, Then go back and put yours on your vendor a few K less or more if not enhanced weapons. Not everyone can afford the super duper weapons. There is a market fat with middle class people that can afford average or above average guns and see no sense paying 20k more for 10 more points of damage.

Either drop WS for a couple months while you mine/buy resources, or spend that time making HPBC, grenades, mines, and other non-standard weapons. No one really cares about the stats on those things because they're hard to find, and it'll build a customer base for when you get good resources and start making regular weapons.

Let me tell you about a little Rifle secret called conceal shot my boy.(err I hope your a boy, sorry if not) Conceal shot with buffs can allow you to solo any MOB in the game(so could Doctor,a melee profession, and l337 armor, but your a part rifleman right?).

Goto Dathomir, conceal shot NS Elders, get your NS Vibro thingies and +20 Experimentation SEA's.

Goto Tatooine, conceal shot Krayts, get your tissues.

Well Nyms not as hard as the rest, but you could do the same with them.

When a rifleman, MOB's are yours to harvest like a Heavy Mineing Instalation.......

that takes like half an hour and more often than not you'll get killed when concealshot causes the random 1 point bleed and aggro, or it warps on top of you and aggros, or some group will wander by and steal it.

Never said it was the most effective But it is a solution.

Now here is another option, sponser a Hunting guild. Tell them you will make their rare lewt components at an extremely cheap price if they supply you with some rare lewts for production and sale of your own high end goods.

Here is another option, make the best you can with what you've got till you can gather the best resources needed. Then get a smuggler to slice all your weapons and sell budget sliced weapons. A subpar but cheap weapon with a decent slice is still going to sell for a reasonable amount of credits. As time goes by your weapons will gradually get better.

I think the best way for new WS's to make money is to make grenades and mines. Most WS's don't bother to make them cuz they are time-consuming and low profit. And these don't require the best of the best resources, since they are expendible. Best of all, the way to sell grenades is to send tells to commando's. So you don't need vendors.

Also, one other possibility is making fast VK's using non-advanced vibroblades. This does require good resources, but they are not too hard to find and VK's sell really well. There are lots of TKM's who will buy VK's by the crate if you can get the speed down in the 2.0 sec area, which isn't too hard.

Check around the other weaponsmith vendors and see if they offer weapon powerups as well. Get a good crafting station, tool, and good polysteel copper and create WUK's. Most of my sales are of these products. I've noticed that I am starting to get a loyal following of slicers buying my WUK's. A few of them are also buying my weapons to slice and resell. But also as in real life... Location, location, location.... might also try placing your vendor, when you get the skill, on the planetary map. It helps out alot there too.

Here is my suggestion, this is just what I do. Go to highly populated POI's that have humanoid NPC's. I often loot sword cores, blaster couplers, well all types of weapons components, etc.. etc.. while high level weaponsmiths (Master) can make items better than this, for the most part lower level ones cant. Since I did not purchase these and use them when I make my weapons, they are usually more powerful than other lower end Weaponsmith weapons that are used by us ( I am lower end weaponsmith as well 4104) to craft weapons as well. This allows me to put out a good item at a competetive price and getting my name on the market. Also think up a crafty name for people to remember your weapons by, not just the server given "DLT20 Rifle" name. This will get you known, this will get people to see that you can build good weapons and will more than likely cause people to look at your items before anyone elses. For myself most of my weapons sell within a day of me posting them on the bazaar using these tactics.

Ok, here's the deal. They best way to break into the Weaponsmithing market is to have weapons that are very comparable to the already established WS's. Reputation is the name of the game. I refused to make weapons that could not compare to the best on the server. For the first 2 months, i was short of solid petro 3, so i didn't make ANY weapons that used vibro units, refusing to use regular vibro units. When people understand that you refuse to make lower quality weapons... they will come to you eventually. It will take time. It will drain your money. Save the good resources until you can make the best. And most importantly, be patient. I've been master since January. Until March, i've been selling one weapon every four days... now i have a steady income.

Good luck!

Also advanced sword core and advanced reinforcement core weapons are very easy to make for starting smiths, since the resources required are failry common in good qualities.

Basically, find what weapons you can make well and do those while you build your stockpile of resources. And as is always my standard answer GET FOOMAN'S SPREADSHEET so you can keep track of what resources you have...what resources spawn that are better, and what resources to use for each craft.

I would recommend specializing.

Take a long, serious look at your resources and what they are used in. Figure out which weapons you can make at very nice levels and make a few. Go around to the best weaponsmiths.. or do what I did and post a thread on your forums and ask for a comparison.

I started out making Rifles and looking for materials specifically used for rifles. I posted a thread asking other weaponsmiths how I was doing so far.. I asked people to compare their basic Laser Rifle with a stock.. unsliced and using no enhancements and let's see who's the best.

It was a shocker. I could get something like 392 max damage or so. The best rifle came out at 444. I am still attempting to get there after 3 months following that post. My best now is 439.

It pays to have a goal and set yourself up some good benchmarks. This will let you know how good you are in an objective way.

The first time I got a half-decent damage slice on one of my lasers and powered it up .. and saw that 728 damage.. I was thrilled. Not the greatest.. but was a personal triumph nonetheless.
