Thread: I would like a WS crafting revamp (do we dare to ask this?)

I think we have to few options when crafting and almost every gun crafted by differnet ws are the same (assuming same resources). I would like to see some changes to the crafting process so there will be more variation among weapons. Take a look at food crafting, there are lot of different options.

1) Split experimentation on damage and speed into two

2) Make experimentation on range and HAM do more (not 1-2 points like it is now)

It must be balanced so we got half the speed and damage comparted to what we have today (that is why I wrote the "Do we dare to ask"). One point spent in damage or speed should do more than it does today. So if you spend 3 points on each you should end up with same speed/damage as we get today. It should be possible to make a weapon with higher damage (and lower speed) or higher speed (lower damage).

I guess this should come in or after combat revamp or it would be pretty useless (assuming that combat revamp will make weapon speed for all professions useful).

Today I think ws is more about logistics than any skill (except for some things but most ws learn this pretty quickly). The only differentiation we have is which components we use.

An interestingidea I saw on another thread was to allow Wepsmith's to give the customer the choice of which type of damage the weapon deals. We should have a new type of component which determines whether the weapon fires energy or acid, cold etc. each with their own advantages and disadvantages.

But, yes I agree some kind of revamp is in order here.

Not a bad idea, but with combat the way it is today, most specials take only a second or so to attack, I know my master swordsman can spam specials every second, regardless of the weapons speed. I dont think even if they DID do a combat revamp, everyone else would **edit** because speeds for mastery would have to be reduced so much, OR weapon speed would have to be able to go below 1 second again, in that case, you wouldnt need to use specials.

Good Idea though

seeing how they refuse to give riflemen a kinetic damage weapon, stealth-nerf the one they put in, and deny that the tusken was ever kinetic, i'd say the chances of getting anything witha swappabledamage type is zero.

If you had infinite possibilites, you'd still end up making all of one type of weapon. Rifleman would all want a max damage stun T21, etc. I think the current system, while not perfect, works fairly well.

I know that. That is why I wrote that this should happen after combat revamp. Assuming weapon speed willl again be important. I think that weapons speed should be improtant for all professions. The way the speed formula works is plain stupid. I also hope that devs does not just add some new speed caps (like 3 sec for rfileman) which would not make weapon speed more important, just a higher cap.

What might be interesting (as long as we're talking pie in the sky) in a combat/weapon revamp is if there was no global speed cap, but the speed cap was the speed of a weapon. A 7.5 second Tusken rifle could be fired every 7.5 seconds by a master, perhaps every 15 seconds by a novice.

are you all weaponsmith newbies? do you not remember just 1 publish ago when they tried to 'revamp' crafting and claimed it was what we asked for? THEIR idea of a revamp (regardless of what youask for)is the publish7 system that we got revoked on the 11th hour. If you even HINT at a revamp that is what you will get, no IFs,ANDs or BUTsabout it. If you ask for ANY kind of revamp what you will get is the exact OPPOSITE of what yououtlined here. You want diversity, I can appreciate that, the devs THINK their system provides it.In reality, all that system did is force WS to spend every single pointin damage. They talk about being able to make low ham weapons but who (honestlyWHO?!) would buy your low ham t-21 when max damage is just 175? Their 'crafting revamp' is already done, they tried to roll it out twice now and I am certain they will try it once again and pretend we asked for it. If you ask for or even hint at the word revamp all they will do is go to the shelf and dust off their already coded system. I think a snowball has a better chance in hell than we do getting devs to spend any time coding a new crafting system. We have 2 choices at this point, the current one, or the one in which condition of the weapon is much lower. Those w/ 12 points will be the only sellers, and every single weaponsmith will look identical w/ regards tostats because damage sells, anything else wont when it means over 100 points or more lost in damage.

Can you point me toward any info on this crafting revamp that got pulled at the last minute? Not that I don't believe you...I'm just curious.

Several of the threads got deleted or HEAVILY edited with critical posts being taken out (particularly the well-worded ones while some flames were left in).

Essentially the Publish 7 crafting 'fix' was a HUGE problem. It reduced the possible results for experimentation to a max of ((Weapon cap for resources) - (Initial Assembly Percentage))/10.

So.... for guns that required bad resources that would take 5 or 6 exp points to cap damage, but which we've been able to make accurate, long-lasting, or lower HAM? It would take all 10 exp points to max damage. With no room left for other experimentation.

It also addressed the problem of the profession where you're either a Master with good resources or you're nothing, by insuring that you wereonly 12Exp-Point Masters with the absolute best resources or you were nothing.

It was a ridiculouspatch, and the outcry was almost universal. They proposed it once, and it was shouted down. They proposed it AGAIN in publish 7 and there was again a huge uproar. As a tease they pushed it anyway to let the 12 point masters craft some very nice schems, and then pulled it, most of us chose not to do so, some did.

Edited to add: So while there are MANY flaws in the crafting system, I'd just as soon they kept their hands off of it. Since the alternative seems to be complete idiocy.
