i believe the white ones are base stats, and yellow have increased min/mas damage (and speed).

There are white and yellow barrels.
Yellow ones give slightly better stats typically.

I have heard that there can be up to a 100max damage difference between a white and yellow barrel, but im not a WS so I cant say for sure.
But yellow is the way to go for sure.

In theory yellow barrels can give an increase to one or more of the weapon stats. However, this is random and the yellow barrel doesnt always enhance the final weapon.

Yes well the only way to describe a yellow barrel is that it generally 9 times outta 10 has a hidden stat/stats for the enhancement of final product,these are totally random and no one can tell what these are till weapon is made.
white barrels how ever will offer nothing to enhance final stats.

so, these should be sold to a weapon smith? never really payed attention to this kind of stuff when i looted it. just thought it was random crap.

Random Crap? I hope you didn't delete any "DE-10 Barrels" white or yellow.
On Lowca the White Barrels sell for 300k-500k, and the Yellows can go for 1-2mil sometimes.
