Well, I'm currently a 0404 Gunsmith, only a few days from Master Weaponsmith (Steel supply allowing) and have a few questions:

1. Is there any reason/bonus to keeping Master Artisan for a MWS? - I'd like to drop Domestic Arts I-IV & MA, but will not do so if somehow it means lesser quality components/weapons.

2. I've just made a couple of Pistols, one was a CDEF Pistol for a newbie at the starport, This was the first weapon I've made and came out @ 24-44dam 10% Wound, Other was a Scout Blaster that came out @ 50-106dam 15% Wound Speed 2.6 - How do these compare to others out there?

3. How much difference do Adv. Blaster Power/Barrel/Scope components make considering the difficulty I may face sources the more restrictive resources?

4. Once I hit Master, what advice do you have for a new MWS that wants to keep at this trade and make a good name for himself. (i.e. This wasn't a holo-grind )

Thanks for any help,

Vennt Vespya.

1. some weapons require themaster artisan components but i dont believe how they are experimented on effect the gun so therefore u could buy them from anyone and not worry that they will bring down ur gun. if im wrong then well maybe u should make a lot of each before u drop master artisan so u know the quality on the pieces for sure.

2. no clue..never made either

3. they make a lot of different, dont plan on becoming well known and considered good without using all adv components

4. no clue..was holo grind for me but i winded up liking it and still have it but i dont sell

The point is, ladies and gentleman, is that "bots" -- for lack of a better word -- are good. Bots are right. Bots work. Bots clarify, cut through, and capture the essence of the SWG spirit. Bots, in all of their forms -- bots for crafting, for killing thugs, for buffing, healing -- have marked the upward surge of mankind and other races. And bots -- you mark my words -- will not only save SWG, but that other malfunctioning corporation called the Empire.

1. Yep. You're going to need to keep Master Artisan for things like Powerups and Vehicles to keep your bank up, it'll be awhile until you get good ground in Weaponsmithing.

2. The stats of those guns are roughly the base, unexperimented stats of mine. In other words, you'll have a lot of work ahead of you to improve.

3. Advanced Projectile parts are essential, these parts are the best of their kind and provide huge increases. Advanced Blaster Power-Handlers are pretty essential, as well. Any other advanced parts (Stocks, Barrels) are optional. Adv Scopes are not worth using and Adv Blaster Barrels, on average, don't bring anything extra to the table to merit collecting their resources. The difference in the Advanced parts worth using, however, is pretty huge, like a 30 damage increase.

4. Most smiths you're going to be competing with have 900+ CD/OQ Coppers, 600/900+ CD/OQ Steels,1000 OQ Chemicals and high-end Advanced resources. You're going to need resources this good to have the slightest chance at getting your name out. (Unless you're on a new server, I'm not sure how old Chimaera is. But if it's less than a month old, you will have a much easier time getting your weapons to sell and probably won't need resources of this caliber.)

I'd recommend keeping Master Artisan and focusing on only Power-ups and Vehicles until you gather a large amount of good resources. Maybe try charged-based Heavy Weapons and Grenades, too, using the money you make to buy new harvesters and pay for Surveying travel costs. But if your guns are 30 less damage than the norm, you could get a reputation as a crappy smith. If you jump into the market with guns nearly as good as everyone else's, you'll start off with a much better reputation. Vehicle vendors are extremely popular, so once you end up making high-end weapons, you'd probably get a fair amount of customers who stop by for Vehicles and buy your weapons while they're there. Oh, and pick up Novice Merchant and get Advertising III.

1. There are a few weapons that require master artisan parts, but you can easily find a supplier when you need them, I'm sure, especially with all the masters out there since the vehicle rush. You're going to need power conditioners for stun batons, and control units for tangle pistols and either spraysticks or SG82's (can't remember off hand).

2. First of all, CDEF's use artisan experimentation, so they're not really a good thing to judge with. That scout is severely lacking however. You're going to want some much better resources, because even the master bonuses won't make up for the difference. Check the guide to weaponsmithing that Logix has stickied to get some tips on how to improve your guns.

3. All different. The advanced blaster power handlers are the bread and butter of master level weapons. Until you can make these in bulk you will be way behind those who can. Advanced feeders and projectile barrels are the same way, get them asap. Advanced blaster barrels are not worth it. At best, the pistol barrel can add about 6 pts damage, for a .2 hit in speed, while the rifle barrel shows no advantage at all. You may want to use them for a special order, but generally, stay away from these until something is done about Rhodium steel. Advanced scopes are a special order item. Usually when people want scopes, it's with the stipulation that you can get the HAM down to 0/0/0 or 1/1/1, which can only be done with the regulars. The advanced can give a much nicer ranged bonus, but the HAM will be noticeable at best. Advanced Stocks, like stocks in general, are also special order. Since these are going to be used by people who want the most possible damage for one or two shots, regardless of penalties,go with the advanced, which can potentially yield a much higher damage.

4. For other tips and advice read the stickied guide.

Thanks!

Exactly the kind of responses I'd hoped for.

Looks like I'll keep MA then, and as for resource stats, My copper & aluminium is over 900's, steel in the low 800's and my chemicals/gems are a severe let down (300to600) so I'll try and source higher qual replacements for these.

Time to survey hard I think =)
