ok, i admit, a holocron told me to do this. but i like the idea of being ble to make myself some decent weapons - so im really going to give it a go. i read that practice mode gives an extra 5% xp bonus. great, marvellous. WHATS PRACTICE MODE?

When you use practice mode, the crafting consumes the required resources, gives the 5% exp bonus, but no item is actually created. Not only do you get the exp bonus, but it's a timesaver when grinding. Before this you'd make 20 rifle barells, and then need to destroy them to free up the inventory space, now with practice it's never actually created.
