New Weaponsmith Needs to Get to 12pt. The Old-Fashioned Way
Don't have 20 million creds sitting around!
Willing to hunt my tail off to find them!
Everything that I have read says that only high-level NPCs (NS Elders, Dark Jedi, etc.) are dropping decent weapon experimentation tapes. Can anyone give me some more detailed information like does one type of NPC seem to drop more than another? How frequent are the drops? What's a realistic expectation of how long this will take doing it the old fashioned way -- 2 months, 6 months? My guild has a team up for the task, just need to set realistic expectations
Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

how long is a piece of string ?
it could take 1 day or it could take 1 month, or it could take 1 year. It is completely random. You might get lucky and loot a nice +25 tape off the 1st elder you kill or you might kill 100 elders and loot no tapes at all. You cannot assign a length of time to it as it relies entirely on something which is very very random. It is all about luck. You could try Nyax as he does drop nice mid range tapes but if your server is anything like mine he will be camped to hell and back by AFK weasel pumping bandits

I've got some very nice tapes from the Aakuan Champion cave the last couple days. I think I spelled that wrong, butt ewe git teh gist.

Can't say that I'm surprised by the response. Just wanted to make sure that I wasn't missing something. Thus, the long journey to 12pt. begins!

just go kill the REAL Lord Nyax in his POI on corellia. he's at the bottom, and he's pretty hard to kill, but drops uber CAs and AAs.
on radiant some1 looted a +16 food exp tape, another looted a +14 weapon exp tape and i looted a +14 defence vs dizzy AA off of him. 50k ham medium armor i think, and uses a carbine that hits for 3k dmg so get a jedi to tank him, and make sure the jedi has mls so he isnt hit as often... i know a jedi that camps him all day and has been killed by him twice in the last 2 weeks...
