Thread: What to experiment on? Damage? Speed? Or both?

I guess the answer to the question of what to experiment on will depend on the combat professions situation with weapon speed. I have heard that its no longer possible for combat professions to "cap out" on weapon speed.

If this is true, is it more advantageous to experiment all the way on speed and then use damage afterwards? Getting the speed as low as possible so that more shots = more hits.

Or is there diminishing returns set up in experimentation so that by trying to max out speed or damage you are actually getting fewer damage per second than just splitting the difference?

I did a little test making beam rifles with some power handlers I had laying around and came to these conclusions (12 pt. smith):

Experiment Damage first, then speed: Base DPS 189.27 Modified DPS 205.5

Experiment Speed first, then damage: Base DPS 187.37 Modified DPS 203.44

Experiment 50/50 Damage & Speed: Base DPS 191.8 Modified DPS 208.25

Now, not being the scientific type, I didnt pay attention to whether I had any amazing successes or not.

Has anyone else had similar findings?
