Thread: How many non-mineral harvesters do you use?
Do you have a full set of chemical and gas harvester to be used when for example a good polymer or Irolunn gas spawns? Or do you don't care about harvesting this and instad buy ?
I currently only have 1+1 gas/chemical 7 rate mediums but will at least buy one high rate heavy of each. When I can afford it I will probably buy more heavies (well, when Iroulunn spawns on our server I will buy as many as I can afford).
I switch what I use depending on waht is available.
I only use 2 Heavy Gas and 2 Medium Chem (pull 7). I also actually have 3 Heavy Floras due to a really great shift of organics. The floras paid themselves off two-fold.
If so, how about redeeding the harvester? Do the lot owner have to do that?
Are you keeping those borrowed harvesters in the same location so you don't have to get the owner to move it or how are you doing this?
The only thing worse than having to loose a heavy harvester is loosing a factory when you have just madw a large run of expensive stuff. :-)

Master Weaponsmith (for just under a week - but don't tell too many people, I still need to get iroluun, axidite, good steel and good iron before I can be properly competitive
I don't have a clue how you guys do this. I am a Novice WS (0404) and am prolly gonna give it up (maybe give up the whole game).
I tried the harvester thing for a while. It ruined me financially. I found that I can macro-sample overnight and get 3x the resources that my personal mineral extractors were able to get.
These are the issues I am having:
1) It costs a discusting amount of money to run a single harvester, forget paying forenough harvesters to be worth using. If I sold 100% of the resources I bring in, it would pay almost half the cost, maybe.
2) It costs 3000 credits to move a harvester. I couldn't even think about trying it. So I ask, is that money lost, or when you lay it back down, the money is still in it? I would need to move harvesters around daily.
3) its costs money to maintain a harvester even if you switch itoff!!!! Christ!
Now I need to use factories to produce sub-componants for some top-end guns. So I need to buy a factory? I need to pay blood money to keep it from self-destructing? Fuk this.

1) If you're placing your harvesters on 10% plots, I can see this happening. But even should you drop a base rate personal on a 70% lot you're pulling in roughly 1,750 resources. Even if you hocked them off at a pittance of 1cr/unitthat would more than pay for a single day's maintenance on a personal (credits wise).
2) Money is lost, I am not sure why you're moving a harvester around daily, unless you own 1 and are using it to gather everything ... ?
3) Doesn't consume power though. I don't know how to reconcile cash being used even if it's off, save maybe wear and tear, but it's odd that wear and tear is the same if it's doing nothing versus drilling the planet surface.
At a lower stage in your weaponsmithing career, you'll have to run missions to support yourself. I started with 7 personals and 3 wind generators (for margin of safety), eventually upgrading to 8 mediums and 2 solars for my entire grinding path. You run a half dozen doubled up survey missions (assuming you have some high level marksman to get the high end survey payouts, stupid yes, but that's how it is) and you'll cover the cost of running your resourcing. I always thought it was ridiculously simple. If you think that it's too much effort to do a half dozen doubled up missions to support 8 medium harvesters dragging out maybe 30,000 units of resources a day - then perhaps you should give up
Even now I don't move any kind of significant distance without picking up a doubled up survey mission and a clear idea on what resources are where. This way during your travels you even make a profit above and beyond ticket prices ![]()

Ditto...
I fail to see how anyone cannot make money this way, and even since I mastered I still grab 2 Ferrous metal missions everytime I head out to my harvesters.
On the subject of redeeding personals: DON'T DO IT!!! You can make personals for a 1/4 of the redeed fee or even buy them for half of it. It takes less to make a PMH than it does to make some weapons for chrissake. Beg, borrow or steal for a medium and try to build up your fleet, steadily over time.
To quit at 0,4,0,4 is silly when you are in fact over the worst bit, and can actually sell some guns now...
I'm weaponsmith 0-4-0-4 with my own weapon store, and I stock equipment as well.
Weapon sells on the vendor are quite slow at the moment, butI sell 1-2 weapons daily on the bazaar. I have the resources for ABPH and lasers. My WUKs sells realy well (crate of 25, 2500 credits). Power Ups sells both from the vendor and bazaar.
Should I only focus on weapons I would make a nice loss, but combined with the equipment and some resource sells on the bazaar I make a profit.
I have 5 medium mineral harvies, along with 3 Solar generators. The solars are realy good... the cost for 1 unit on a 50% is less than 0,2 credits.
So far I've used personal harvies for chemical, but when there comes a good polymer to Eclipse I'll buy 1-2 medium chems.
My most money I've made from selling some bulk minerals and selling faction points. Thats given me some money.
Same here, I never (only exception is when I am in a hurry)travel without picking 2 survey missions. Travelling between cities or planets is a sure profit. Loosing money on travelling to different planets? No way, I make 1000-3000 cr each time I travel. Sometimes it is a gamble when you are travelling to a city you haven't been to for a while. But ferrous, non-ferrous-metal or inert petrochemical is a safe bet. There is usually some resource in high concentration inside city.
Only time I have been making a loss when travelling is in my recent mining operations on Lok. I can't find any artisan terminals in Nym's stronghold. Does anyone know if/where it is? Maybe Lok is not ment for crafters. To do mining on Lok I can assure you that you need every combat skill you can get :-). But that 999 OQ Fiberplast on a 90% spot is worth it.
I personally think it is impossible not making a profit on mining. You can pay for the cost of a heavy harvester after just a week.
Note: Only the redeed cost is lost. Rest of the money is in when you place it again (I am sure you know that but it wasn't that clear in your messsage)
