Thread: Someone explain why DLT20 was added to novice?

hmmm and why it wouldnt be at novice ? you'd want it at firearms 4 ?
WIth all due respect you've missed the point. I haven't checked the schematic yet, but I will assume it requires 1 blaster rifle barrel.
If you care to check where you get that component, it's Firearms 1.
Also I invite you to note that at this time you get the DLT20a as well.
If the DLT20 is worse than the DLT20a, yet you need firearms 1 to independently make either, which would you choose? From all reports they are pretty much match for much, saving complexity. Anyway where else in crafting is there a product that *requires at minimum* a component that exists higher in the tree? Maybe there is, but I don't think there is...
If they were thinking of trying to give weaponsmiths at firearms 1 a market to sell blaster rifle barrels to the Novices? What .... a ..... clever ... idea.
Now if the Dev had bothered to test this change, (s)he would have seen right away that the novice weaponsmith could not build a DLT20.
This says something interesting about the dev's they are either:
1 Lazy and incompetent (ie they didn't bother to test)
or
2 they're sadists (ie they did test it and let the change go in anyway)
Nice going fellas

Optimist. That should have been an AND
I see their logic as this:
By requring a component that is higher than the crafter is capable of it forces the crafter to seek the component from one that is capable of crafting it. Thus it maintains the economy rolling along. The same thing with the level 1 mines, they require level 2 components.
Unfortunately the sale to crafting ratio is very bleak for low level weapons, every one wants top shelf weapons. Then the folks complain when you charge top dollar for top shelf.
So far the only thing I can sell on a regular basis are grenades. Sigh...i guess i'll just grind until I reach the point that everyone complains about the high cost of my high level weapons.

i cant remember the last time i saw someone runnin around with a DL20a or otherwise.
Oh don't get me wrong - a fully tooled up DLT20a made at master level with advanced components is a very respectable 'sidearm' rifle. I push them out at 125-204/5.0 with 28 mind cost, +45 to hit at ideal. You manage to get a good damage slice and a damage powerup and it's not a slouchy weapon.
I just fail to see the point of adding what seems to essentially be the same rifle twice (I think I read somewhere they actually are statwise the same), and especially at a level a weaponsmith can't independently make it. I doubt there's going to be a slew of weaponsmiths that advance tech tree all the way before moving into firearms 1 first, unless they want to make WUKs and swords for that entire tree.
No matter how they try to spin it, personally I think it was a stupid waste of time.
I think dlt20 was added to give novice weaponsmiths a chance to build more useful weapons. But as others have mentioned it just doesn't work.
So what is the difference between the dlt20 and the 20a (other than complexity)put togetherone of each, and they came out almost identical (slight experiment differences is all). Sure looks like the dlt20a's completley obselete.

Seems like a waste of time to me. You can't survive on low end weapons anyway. People progress to fast in the game. You can get laser rifle cert in a good days worth of shooting noob mobs (Rifle 3).
Yet a casual gamer would take months to get up to making lasers as a smith.
