Thread: Question about repairing weapons.

I'm a Master Ranger and as I am often in the field for long periods of time I often have the need to repair my own weapons. I have purchased what appear to be good quality Weapon Repair Kits with generally a 97% or higher rating and as a Master Ranger I have access to the "public" quality weapons crafting station in my camp.

My question is really in three parts:

1) Does, as it seems, standing next to the weapons crafting station improve my success with the repairs? If so, would a higher quality private crafting stations provide further benefits?

b) Would I be better off waiting it out until I could find a Weaponsmith who might be able to do a better job than I can? If so, areMaster Weaponsmithsbetter at this than Novice Weaponsmiths?

iii) If a Weaponsmith can do a better job than I can do ya'll mind getting a specific request to do so and what would be a reasonable fee?

Any response would be appreciated,

hi

I am master weaponsmith and regularly repair weapons for my guild and others, i have a few extra repair skill points and seem to get much better results than non-WS. (I have only had 1 weapon fall apart in 4 months as master WS, and afraid to say that was a friends very nice scythe ) I generally get around 25% great repairs and the rest with slight loss in condition. I have tried repairing near my 45 weapon crafting station and also without it and it doesnt seem to make any difference.

I use 99.8% repair tools which i craft myself.

I am always happy to repair weapons for anyone that asks nicely and never charge (the cost of a tool is virtually nothing and the time it takes minimal).. but as a struggling WS tips are always appreciated

A guildmate of mine is always grinding using 2-handed curved swords which i supply him by the crate, he also has the same repair tools that i use and regularly tries repairs in the field but seems to get a roughly 50/50 split of complete failures and loss of condition, he has no artisan skills at all.

Also the actual condition of the weapon when you repair is important, as if you try to repair a weapon when it still has a lot of condition left you run the risk of the max condition falling to below what you had anyway!!!

This is only my experience/idea's and if anyone has different views i would be very interested

hope this helps you

Here's some numbers on weapon repair i put together a while back: http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=weaponsmith&message.id=51074

Also, since that time, TH has told us that WS's do recieve a small bonus to repair, but it is smaller than we might expect (my guess, based on the data, is that its 5% or less, so that it's only specifically apparent over many, many repairs).

So ifa weapon's very important to you, finding a WS will give you at least a small chance of getting a better result, but probably not enough to make it worth your while every time you need to repair something.

What about the use of Weapons Repair tools while standing next to acrafting station? I had a couple of weapons fall apart on me when I tried to repair them in my house and have mostly good repairs (repaired but condition is reduced, to repaired with only minor blemishes, but no failures) since I started repairing next to the weapons crafting station in my camps. A very very small sample size to be sure but enough to spawn a full and texture rich superstition.

I have a weaponsmith who has the FS repair skills and 97% tools. I will ofter get fair results. I seriously think that repair skills dont factor much into the final outcome.

I disagree. When I'm wearing my full suit (+7 weapon repair, +6 repair), for anything over 50% condition, using 99.9% repair kits, I nearly always get minor blemishes (The amount of times I haven't is in fractions of a percent). As the condition goes lower, my success rates drops, but still relatively high. Since I've started to use the suit, I've never had a weapon fall apart on me, even when it was at 52/963 condition (it was a 'maximum condition has been lowered' repair, for anyone interested).

As for the crafting stations, I've never really tried/noticed. As for the repairing thing, as a rule of thumb I'd say if the person is walking around with (Master Weaponsmith) as they're title, then they're probably ok with repairing weapons. If they don't, its probably pot luck.
