Thread: about those new bowcaster schematics...
I read the news about the new Recon and Assault Bowcasters. I am a Wookie Master Weaponsmith, and I am really excited. Does anyone know any more about these? Will the schematics be given automatically to Wookies or Weaponsmiths? Or will they be loot items with a limited number of uses like an Enhanced E11 schematic?
And they are basicly only different looking variants of other weapons. The Assault Bowcaster for example has the same stats as a T-21 and uses the same resources to craft.

Actually, the current bowcaster is not a bad weapon once the armor piercing consideration is taken out of theequation as was going to happing with the CU anyway. Unenhanced my bowcasters are 5.2 170-303 and with the potential for double enhancement the sky was the limit. Just last week I made a bowcaster with over 600 max unsliced. The beauty of the current bowcaster is a wookiee with few/no combat skills could wield that bowcaster quite effectively for self protection. Without the skill boxes you wouldn't be a factor in pvp or pve but it would be a big help when going out to survey or check on harvesters. Now you'll probably only have access to the light bowcaster w/o other skill boxes and I'm sure the stats on that are not going to be much help to someone who doesn't have the skill points.
I intend for my WS toon to have an elite combat master prof but this was a nice little advantage wookiees had for either levelling rifles (getting much more powerful weapon than starter rifles) or being able to protect one's self with a minimum of skill points used (granted it didn't make you uber, just a bit more effective). As usual the dev's "enhance" something in the game at the expense of something else but that's not surprising since they don't really seem to know the game very well.

If this is in fact a change they've made to crafting to take away the advantage that long-term players with better resources have then I expect to see many crafters leave the game.
One possibility that exists is that loot will enable you to hit those predetermined maxes with fewer points, thereby enabling you to spend the points elsewhere. I'm not sure how that's affected by the current slicing situation where people report that the worse the dmg/spd on a weapon the better slice it seems to get but bear in mind with the smuggler revamp the slicing process is going to change anyway in the not too distant future, whatever that means.
