This whole elemental thing is not making much sense to me. Can someone link me to a thread with more info about it?

I think your question should be "is there any advantage to use an elemental weapon?". The tests and math I have done show that even an armor layered specificly to be weak against elemental (and instead having high normal resists) will still protect more against an elemental weapon than the same armor without layers ie having same resists to both normal and elemental damage.

Note: Armor layers are zero-sum game, they add resists to something but remove the same (or acctualy more as we have diminshing returns) from something else, a kinetic layer will perhaps add +100 to kinetic but at the same time it will be -100 to energy. The layer used in the above example was Primus Advanced Layer, it adds to kinetic and energy but lowers acid/electrical/heat/cold.

SO I guess since this is supposed to be balanced, everyone is supposed to have a weakness in their armor? In other words, it is impossible to have high resists to all damage types(more so than in the current system).

More or less, unlayered armor has no weakness but it maxes out at 6000 (48%) with layering combined with the free layers of assault or recon we could reach 8000 (56%) (this is without loot, maybe with great loot we may add another 1000) but if we get it up there we create a weakness in the opposing element, if we make a great kinetic we get low energy.

Question is, is it worth to layer the armor?, but with primus layer it is worth it because in practice you get no weakness. I feel that elemental protection needs to be lower to start with, maybe half of normal otherwise there are no reason to layer for it as a normal damage layer will have more effect.
