I've been a MWS ever since about a month after the game released. I got back a couple of months ago from a two month vacation from the game.
I'm back now and I'm curious as to wether or not it's possible to make any money on Bria with weaponsmith (or anything else for that matter)
I am a 10 point WS with no special bits 'n pecies (geo, aklay, teeth) part due to the lack of combat profession and part due to the lack of a massive stack of cash.
I'm interested in making money again, but I fear that I must be doing something wrong and want to know what anyone else is doing to make any kind of money off this profession.
A MWS friend of mine (another 10 point smith) has been selling weapons for 6 months so far off his fully stocked vendor in a mall and says he does well to break even.
I sell almost exactly enough weapons to keep my large house running. I already have more resources sitting around than I probably will ever use in WS affairs, I harvested it all back in the "golden age" of SWG.
I'm on the brink of caving in, dropping MWS and templating combat professions as the payout is much better.
Doing misions for 10k, I should be able to make as much in one afternoon as MWS makes me in about 3 months.
How can I succeed?

Well, I just found a new niche in selling Weapon Upgrade Kits. And now that I've gotten master artisan, I'll probably sell powerups as well.
Not much money in being a 10pt smith, though. You can throw a rock and hit a weaponsmith. Too many of us, so the competition is really really nasty. The 12pt smiths will control your server.
To get by,I married into money, and I craft mostly for her. I also just picked up Chef (should hit master by tomorrow or the next day) and I'll be cooking for her as well.
You'd prolly be better off going with a combat profession. The only time I would suggest anyone become a weaponsmith is if they didn't want to make money, but just wanted to craft weapons for the sake of crafting.

1. How do your weapons compare to the competition in terms of price/quality?
2. Where are your vendors located (high traffic, medium traffic, what traffic?)? If you dont' have a good location, find someone who will let you set up a vendor in their shop. On my server, South Coronet is the place to be.
3. What type of weapons do you stock (ranged/melee/grenades-and which ones, sliced/unsliced, etc)?
4. What are you doing to build a customer base (advertising on server trade forum, auction channel, spatial spamming - but dont' get too carried away with that last one, doing some promotional giveaways, selling weapons on the bazaar - should be able to sell 10 weapons a day for 6k on the bazaar easy, not great money but it gets your name out there and provides a bit of cashflow if you have none
5. Do you belong to a guild? A guild can provide a ready made customer base. Obviously a bigger guild is probably better in this case.
The key is to study the weapons market on your server and find a niche. Being a ten point smith should be no impediment to success as everyone starts out that way. Im not sure how it is on your server, but on mine smiths have a hard time keeping up with the demand for grenades. Just last weekend I sold three runs of thermals (120 crates x 80k) and grossed nearly ten million credits. It's a lot of work to get that many grenades made but it's quick cash and you dont' have to worry about sitting on inventory. Chances are you could probably sell them faster than you can make them.

Yeah, grenades have become a hot item since the Force Sensitive revamp. I say that could be a nice niche for you. Grenades require larger amounts of resources than regular weapons, but the stats don't need to be 950+ to compete lol.

1. How do your weapons compare to the competition in terms of price/quality?
About 5% either way quality wise. As a general rule, I price 10% below any competition within a few kilometers
2. Where are your vendors located (high traffic, medium traffic, what traffic?)? If you dont' have a good location, find someone who will let you set up a vendor in their shop. On my server, South Coronet is the place to be.
I have one in a medium traffic area, the city I'm part of, and one as close to theed as I can get it. I've not messed with putting one on Corellia yet, as I do most everything from Naboo/Theed.
3. What type of weapons do you stock (ranged/melee/grenades-and which ones, sliced/unsliced, etc)?
Ranged:
FWG5, Lightweight FWG5, Scout, Laser Carbine, Enhanced E11 Carbine, Laser Rifle, T21
Flamer, Scatter, Launch, Lightning
Melee:
VK's
Grenades:
C12 and C22
About 50% are sliced, as my alt is a Master Smug
Mostly spatial spamming (but not out of control), some free give aways, a PA of 60 people recommending me to others...
5. Do you belong to a guild? A guild can provide a ready made customer base. Obviously a bigger guild is probably better in this case.
Guild works on a "you scratch my back" mentality, I give weaps away to guildies free, but in return I get 80% kinetic composite, high ubese, free buffs (2400ish), ship chassis/deeds, vehicles, all the food I can eat... What I would have to pay for the guild services far outdistances what I would make if I charged guildies. They do, however recommend me around a bit.

I'm thinking grenades may be the nitche to go for. Then comes the issue of finding a market for them. Because nobody sells them in bulk, it's hard to find a pricing guildline...
Looks like I'm going to be making a lot of grenades here shortly
thanks for the pointers, now off to get the factory going again and do some more secret shopping!

I just got my last skill box before master and the mission i got involves me hunting some tie advanced (tier4) and one oppresor (tier) pretty dam easy for CAP overload 4
The next part obviously involoves a gunship an RSF one with 7 guns even though i wasnt able to count 7 on the actually frame
It is escorted by 3 Firesprays (which are easy to handle) but once i attack the gunship it starts blowing chunks out of me easily penetrates my sheilds and armour in about 10 hits the only place i dont get shot is if im under it and thanks to its rather annoying way of turning and rolling i cant get a good shot from below so
Could any Master Pilot on Chimera help me or maybe a lesser pilot could help me by riding along in my ARC-170 and he could shoot upwards easily destroying it but that means the IMPs are harder because my bestweapon i would put in the other weapon slot

I think I know the mission you are talking about, and yes, that gunboat can be very annoying. The best method I have found when fighting quest gunboats, the ones that like to turn and roll all over the place is this:
Stick in the fastest engine, biggest shields, and largest capacitor you have. Boosters are also very good as well.
Take out all the escort stuff first. It shouldn't be too hard. Then commence the strafing runs of your gunboat.
Start at about 1500m away from him and charge at him full speed with the engine subsystem targetted (ALWAYS keep that one targetted). When you are about 200-400m from him, hit your booster and keep flying right through him. Once you get to the other side, keep flying away until you are at least 2k out from him. Here's the reason. Odds are, he's going to turn and start chasing you. That will give you time to turn around and setup for another pass. Remember to keep your front shields full, as they will take the majority of the hits. It might take you quite a few passes to get his engines disabled, but once you do, he'll drop really easy from getting into his blindspot.
Of course, the other option is to get some master pilot to help, but that's my little tip for doing it solo. I know it worked for me in my very first mastery when I had to go up against a tier 5 nova. I had that thing chasing me all over the system, literally from one end to the other, with a stop by the space station for repairs thrown in there. Of course, that was all before I learned about, or had access to, all the nice droid programs. Now gunboats drop really quick, but it takes a lot of killing them to learn the finer tactics.
