Thread: Weapon Decay and the Economy

As some of you may be aware, on TC there is a new policy concerning weapon decay, incap, and death.

Weapons lose 3% of their durability upon incap, and 17% on death.

If they are insured, only the 3% decay is applicable, although I'm not sure if it's 3% of max durability or of current durability.

Given that a lot of weaponsmiths charge significantly higher prices for superior weapons [I am not saying WSs overcharge; I am merely noting that the prices are quite higher (e.g. A jump from 5K to 25K for a Laser rifle that has perhaps 10-20 increased min and 30-40 increased max).], how will the new decay affect the economy?

Will a lot more players by "crappy" i.e. novice weaponsmith, or low quality material weapons, in order to not feel so bad when their weapons are damaged? Will this hurt the high-end crafters, who may lose a lot of their sales to people unwilling to take the risk of losing their weapons exponentially faster?

Moreso than the economy, will this hurt PvP? Will everybody be fighting naked with their fists? Will players, if they do this, be forced to group, even though 33%+ (If I remember correctly) of the forum population prefer solo PvE?

I'd love to hear your opinions on this topic, and, perhaps if enough people speak up, we can do something about this (imo) short-sighted feature before the floodgates open for mass subscription cancellation as has already been threatened elsewhere (e.g. BH Correspondent, a lot of riflemen, etc.).

Wouldn't worry about it until it goes live.

Frankly, everything we've ever had to worry about to hit Test Center ended up being changed before it went live so it was more reasonable. The first condition rate nerf, the item schematic nerf, the harvester nerf, all were fixed, none of it made it live.

Iwholly doubt this change in its current state will make it to the live servers, and everyone else should have a little more faith.

let me ask this...say Im running from my factory to my vendor with loads and loads of cases of new weapons and I get killed...highly unlikely..but there are squills around Anchorhead..

will all my brand new weapons all take a decay hit?

Someone tested this, and yes, it does apply to items in crates.
