Critical shot isn't a good way to test this i guess. And i wouldn't know what caused that damage difference. I would say test it again with ranged shots on a level 40 or so

Posted this directly from my guilds forumn from our Guild leader:
So Evoken made me a new badass carbine.
E11 Mark 2
base speed 2.02
My speed 1.16
Damage 418-1048
Accuracy +16
Wound 28.75%
Estimated DPS 362.91
My DPS 634
(Full Speed slice)
Now compare to these to these two carbines:
Proton Carbine
Speed 2.21
My speed 1.26
Damage 462-923
Elemental Damage 90
Estimated DPS 354
My DPS 619
Spec Ops Bola Carbine
Speed 2.2
My speed 1.26
Damage 513-1026
Estimated DPS: 248.75
My DPS 609.27
I did a field test with all three weapons against Level 10 Carrion Spats (first thing I found). I used Advanced Critical Shot for each shot
Proton carbine result: 1843 damage
Bola carbine result: 1949 Damage
E11 Mark 2 result: 1991 damage.
Now I'm not complaining, not by a long shot, I'm just a bit confused. I guess that damage is not some kind of average based upon minimum and maximum damage, and it's not based upon the higher the minimum damage the better like it used to be. I had thought that the Bola carbine would outdamage the E11 because the minimum damage was higher, but it's not the case.
Anyone understand the nechanics a bit better then I do?

Crit shot is not a good way to test. But the way damage works now, those numbers sound about right.

I had a bit more time then I though, so I went and grabbed a Level 80 Belladonna NPC mission. Interestingly enough, advanced critical shot and improved leg sgot did the same damage. Here are the results:
Proton Carbine: Ranged shot: 441 damage. Absorbed 378 out of 819 possible
Crit/leg shot: 794 damage. 681 out of 1475 blocked.
Crit/leg shot: 794 damage. 681 out of 1475 blocked.
E11
Ranged shot: 421. Blocked 362 out of 783
Crit/leg shot: 800 points. 688 out of 1488 blocked
Ranged shot: 421. Blocked 362 out of 783
Crit/leg shot: 800 points. 688 out of 1488 blocked
Bola carbine:
Ranged shot 436 damage. 374 out of 810 blocked
Crit/Leg: 827 points. 712 out of 1539.
Ranged shot 436 damage. 374 out of 810 blocked
Crit/Leg: 827 points. 712 out of 1539.
So the proton had a higher damage on ranged shot, but lower on Crit/Leg shot, which doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Everything else seems a bit closer to what I would expect. It seems that damage may be a average of the range between min and max damage, so I may have been looking at it wrong before. Even though the E11 has the lowest min damage, it has the higher max damage, which seems to make a difference.
Pretty neat anyway

min dmg means more to mobs whose def, in some sort of relativity, is much greater than your acc. of course mobs def is related to their cl.
max dmg, vice versa.
elemental damage must be thought of as translational. that is, adds to both the min and the max value since it is always applied. however, elemental damage does not change as per the shot modifier. therefore, should be thought of as (damage range * shot modifier) + elemental.
max dmg, vice versa.
