Thread: How have others handled trading and TEF's
Found out the hard way that crafters should notallign with a faction. Signed up with a recruiter for covert status and then made the mistake of trading with someone (I think they may have been overt from same faction) and got a TEF (which btw, there is no way to know you have). Went to another town and got blasted beforeI got 3 steps out of starport.
Aside from the fact that this is a dumb-a$$ way to structure things (it's not like I healed the guy) and makes it very difficult for a craftsperson to allign with a faction (for, say, last part of act 2 missions) and still sell directly, I was wondering how others have handled this mess.
Also, I have a question. It's clear you get a TEF if you are covert and trade with an overt from your faction. But, as many of you who have sold directly have experienced, often you cannot trade with coverts when you are neutral and they have just done a faction mission or switched to covert less than an hour ago.
Does trading with such a covert give you a TEF also if you are covert? What I mean is that if I went covert again, would it be enough to just be careful to avoid trading with overts from the same faction, or do I have to watch out for coverts who have recently engaged in faction missions? If I have to watch out for the coverts also, how dfo I know which ones are going to give me a TEF?
I handle TEFs by only trading with people in my faction, for the most part, and not flying to overtly hostile cities if I've done anything more faction-oriented than sit and grind for the past few minutes.
I did have a neutral-aligned customer once while I was overt - we handled the transaction through the bazaar. He tipped me half, I put it on the bazaar for 3k, he bought it, tipped me the other half - 3k.

You get a TEF for trading with or otherwise interacting with (healing/being healed by, etc) an overt or anyone with a TEF. There is no way to tell who has a TEF, and you can't tell when you have a TEF. It's completely retarded, and the only way to avoid the TEF nonsense is to conductall trades on vendors or bazaar.
Did you know that you can get a TEF from trading with someone else with a TEF?. I was sitting in the starport with a customre who was waitning on a person to bring him a HFM and a Tissue to use in in his FWG. Well the guy that had them was overt and must have given my customer a TEF when he traded with him and i must have caught it when he gave the stuf to me cause seconds latter a IMP BH flys through and one shots us both
oh well costs of doing business i guess. At least the customer healed me back up.

I agree. It's beyond retarded. Next question is what forum do we go on to complain? it's not just a WS issue.

So THAT'S why tradesmen stick custom orders I request on the vendor right next to us and then have me buy it off the vendor instead of just trading with me!
