Don't know why you were one-starred, mate. You sounds verty enthusiastic and sincere about your desire to be a good weaponsmith which is always a good thing.
You're right, it is a complicated profession and there is going to be a lot of stuff to keep track of. This is something I have slowly been coming to terms with as I slowly (ever so slowly) grind out my skill tree to make master (just got my 4th tier in the crafting techniques branch last night, check my sig [yeah, I'm a n00b too]). My advice would be to just take your time, start out small, and work your way up. just because you are a Master by title doesn't mean you have to be pumping out flamethrowers and rocket launchers your first day. Start simple and work your way into the harder stuff as you get more resources and your personal skill (yours, not your character's) increases.
And don't be afraid to ask questions. That's what these forums are for.
