I am not a crafter. I never really spent the time to gather all the high quality resources and figure out how all the systems works. It seems to me that this crafting system requires crafters to gather and use the best resources. This makes average or below average resources useless for anything except grinding.
Whouldn't it be neat to be able to take 1000 units of crappy resources, place it in a factoryto refine it. This process would lose some ofthe material but improvestats. The process could have critical failures and all that.
Just an idea to improve the crafting process. Anyone have any comment?

It is a neat idea but I doubt it will ever be put in, the reason being this would basically take out the variation in resource quality (seeing as you could refine it) making resource shifts near meaningless.

Yes but really low stats could turn out really low amount.

Amount is not relevant, really. Changing the attributes would probably never be allowed - TH has been hammering on about keeping disparate resources to drive supply and demand. Besides, even a 10% yield would be quite a bit. Don't underestimate the sheer capacity for pulling resources by the players!

Despite your being one-starred, I've always liked that idea. I sure would like to be able to do that - Codoan Copper, Plumbum Iron, other things that usually have sucky stats.
