I've been trying some of the advice I've gotten from here, such as using 5-6 points on the initial experimentation, followed by 1-2 on each subsequent attempt. Using 587 SR wood and 759 SR aluminum, with starting damage at 7% (1/1 min/max), I was able to eventually get an initial result which must have had a few amazing results in it since the percentage jumped to 55%. I didn't really pay attention to the damage and speed since I still had 4 more points to go.
I used another 2 points and got less than great result, I forget which it actually was, but the min damage was already at 40, and the max was just under it at maybe 38 or 39, so I decided to continue on with it instead of just scrapping the whole thing. What I do remember, is that the speed had gone to 1.0. After putting in my last 2 points in and getting a great result, the final product is a 40/40 min/max, .719 spd, 29/29/29 HAM advanced stock.
The question is this, did that one result just kill my speed, or is the higher number better? I'm pretty sure that the higher the number in speed the worse it is, but I just want to make sure.

Yes, the mod or good 'success' screwed it up and higher is worse in this case. You should be able to get speed to +.3 to +.4 with your stuff and 40/40 damage.
