Thread: Polished black DH17 Carbine

Okay, I had a bit of a strange incident last night. I got a message from a player asking for a carbine he could use as he keeps getting the "You are not certified..." message with a carbine he bought off of the bazaar. So I did my usual questioning and found out: A.) He is a novice marksman and B.) He bought a "DH17 Carbine".
Now, this kind of threw me cause he should be able to use it. I ask if it's a "DH17 Carbine" "DH17 Short Carbine" or a "DH17 Pistol". He tells me the description is "A polished black Carbine" and the name is "DH17 Carbine". Well, now I'm curious. I tell him where to find me and I whip up a nice DH17 Carbine to replace whatever he has.
So he shows up and I ask him to show me what he has. Sure enough, it's a DH17 Carbine, but it's all black with with a nice looking barrel. I've never seen one of these before! I do an even trade for the one I made him and he's happy.
My question is, has anyone else seen these? What drops them and why can't we craft DH17's to look like this? And is there a cert for these odd loot-drop weapons?

Actually there are two Dh17 carbines in game.. the Dh17 ShortCarbine & DH17Carbine
The plain DH17 Carbine has a black barrel.. the DH17 Short Carbine has a silver barrel. both I think are the same for Certs and slightly different in damage and HAMs.

I've only heard of these polished versions, think there is one of the dh17 pistol as well.

Maybe you should read the post again. It doesnt seem like he is talking about the standard DH17 or DH17 Shortie...
Maybe this is like the Lithititanium (or whatever it is) carbine that doesnt seem to have a cert...

Correct, I'm not referring to the player made carbines. The player made DH17 Carbine and DH17 Pistol looks like this:

The carbine this guy brought me looks just like it, but the silver portion is all black. And I've made a few DH17 Shortie's, the barrels are completely different.
I'll try to snag a screenie tonight and post it.

Any MWS can make a"DH17 Carbine" that says "A Polished Black Carbine"
It MIGHT be a looted item that is not meant to be ausable weapon.. i.e. a quest item that was supposed to be returned in exchange for something.
However, he did mention that the weapon says "DH17 Carbine" and that it is black. you know the plain DH17 is ... guess... Black barreled.

I bought a laser carbine off the bazaar long ago which I was unable to use, even though I was certified. I seem to remember something about it being a Rebel weapon. Can you buy weapons from NPC recruiters? And if so, are they only useable by factioned players?

Actually, Eliss, if you follow the link in my previous post you will see that the DH17 Carbine has a silver barrel.
And the sentance "A Polished Black Carbine" was the description in the Examine window. The weapons name was still "DH17 Carbine". And this was a loot drop from something as it had the stats and somewhat worn condition of a looted weapon.

There is a black polished dh17 carbine in the game. It looks just like the dh17 carbine, but rather than having a silver barrel, it is black. I have one of these hanging on my wall and as soon as I get back to my house I'll take a screen cap and link it here. It was looted out ofa crate from a treasure map excursion.

I looted one of these from a Stormtrooper.
A "polished DH17"
It had no exceptional characteristics beyond the name and look....so I gave it to a novice smuggler for slicing xp.

For 1500 (IIRC) Rebel faction points, you can buy a rebel Laser Carbine. Ive never bought one this way, so I dont know if there are additional usage requirements. My guess is youd have to be an Overt Rebel to make use of the weapon. I say this only because you need to be an overt rebel to wear factional armor as well...

These are semi-rare loot drops. I've looted a couple off CorSecs and STs. No one is certed for em, but they make a cool wall decoration 
I've seen collectors pay decent amounts for 'em though, may be worth trying to sell.
