I just got master Weaponsmith about 24 hours ago... maybe a bit more. What a tough grind!!

Well, another weaponsmith from Wanderhome (that's where i'm from) said that the Weaponsmith boards are a good place to start.

I figured I'd introduce myself, wave, chit chat a bit. Oddly enough, I learned a lot of things about being a weaponsmith just by reading the "questions you never ask a WS" thread. Like, I guess I better change my skill tag.

I kinda made the personal choice to stay away from melee weapons, and stick completely to ranged weapons and munitions. I was also thinking about only doing custom orders, until I figure out the ins and outs of running a vendor. That might change, though, as I learn more and more about the profession.

I've been gathering resources in my spare time between grind sessions to relax. I really enjoy surveying. Hopefully, that'll be an asset. With any luck, I won't get sick of it either. I've managed to gather about 8 different specific resources, but I know I have a long way to go.

I've poked around here once in awhile, and the 12pt debate has me a bit worried, but most people are telling me that 10pts will be enough for damage exp. I guess the other 2 pts are only used for dur/HAM.

Well, I'm Ario Freelight on Wanderhome. OrionSeven here. (guy player/girl character, before the questions start.. hehe). It was a pleasure to post here, and an honor to associate myself with you.

Well done. It is a forgetable gind.

Your enjoyment of surveying will definitely serve you well. If you are intent on mining all the needed resources, you will find that it will take a while. I went this road for the most part, and it took about 2 months to produce excellent weapons.

Don't be too concerned with being 10pt, as you've learned, 10pt can produce dmg and speed the same as a 12pt. 12pt enters the picture more with rare items. Nice, but no where near essential.

Your desire to avoid melee weapons could make your path a more difficult. In my experience, the resources for melee weapons spawn more often and are of higher quality. They also use less varieties of resources. Mostly all you need to concern yourself about with melee, is SR, with a little UT thrown in. Even so, best of luck to you with ranged weapons.

I became Master Weaponsmith a couple months ago. Here is what I went through when I became Master:

I was a Master Smuggler, so I could make 500-million credits in a couple days' time frame. I used this money to go around and buy all the resources I needed for the weapons I was going to craft.

My guild didn't have a weaponsmith, and because I give free slices to guild members, I told them before I mastered Weaponsmith that I would be charging for weapons, because of the resources and time involved in crafting weapons.

I do not make factory runs of weapons. I have no interest in doing factory runs of weapons. I started off asking my guild members what weapons they wanted, and then I would make 4-5 of them. Itook the best one and sold it to the guild member, andplaced the other 3 on my vendorI have set up in our guild's cantina. This way, I get weapons that have varying damage/speed and I can price them lower and higher, so people with more or less money can still get a weapon.

I also (of course) slice my own weapons, and factor that price into the final sale price.

Recently, I've found a large demand for vibroknuckles, so every time I sign on I try to make at least 5-6 of them and put them on my vendor. They're usually sold by the next day.

Any time someone has a request for a weapon, I tell them to send me an email, I'll make it, and then tell them what the stats are. If they're still interested, they can buy it from me. If they're not, I'll just put it on my vendor and someone will eventually buy it. This is the best way I have found to deal with the people that want to know "what's the highest damage rifle you can make?"and "Can you make me a pistol with the fastest speed possible?".

I am a 10 point Weaponsmith, and see no reason to chase after those extra two experimentation points.

When I was buying resources, I would go from 500k credits to 10k credits, and then once I started making weapons, it just kept going up. I have about 2.2 million credits now and I'm only going to make more.

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

Howdy!

and welcome to the club. i believe WS was the worst grinds i went through but i am glad that i did because i find it a very fun profession. contrary to what people say...it shouldn't take 6 months to stock all the resources you need. it took me maybe a month of harvesting and searching the bazaar and vendors. if you are choosing to stick with ranged weps, you may want to crank out the basics and sell them on the bazaart to get the cash-flow going. to this day my melee weps are far better than the guns i produce but that may just be a server issue. as far as making money with the prof, i wish i could give you advice but being strictly a guild WS, i have very little in that aspect. regardless, i wish you the best of luck and hope you have fun with it!
