okay I dont play SWG hardcore, and any company that says "Our MMORPG is for Hardcore and Softcore players" is just trying to sell their product hehe. I've been playing on and off for a few months now and I keep having the same dillema. I've mastered weaponsmith, yet the quality of my weapons depends solely on what resources are in rotation (And starsider has awful quality in resource rotation) I seriously dont know what to do here...
I just resubscribed yesterday and starting gathering some Plumbum and Duranium iron so I can hopefully start making weapons and have a vendor up and going in a few weeks. I'm broke and cant really afford to buy resources, I'm just out of ideas because the Corporate Sector Authority (CSA) beats any other weaponsmith on the server because they've saved every resource they've ever gathered since relase.
Any suggestions here?

The above poster is really right on the money about your situation.
I too started out as a poor Weaponsmith (could not afford to buy the really great resources, since most of it was in stacks of 100K). But I kept looking, diligently looking on the bazaar and vendor hunting across the planets.
Eventually I found some smaller stacks of resources, and bought them. I would then make certain weapons and sell them (not gouge, but at a nice profit).
One thing to keep in mind is, there is no need to make 50 of each type of weapon just because you can make them. Even to this day I do not mass produce weapons. I mainly stock a certain amount of a certain kind of weapon (whatever the market is hot for). And mainly, I take orders for 1 or 2 weapons per person from a select clientel.
But it is true that Grenades are a hot item right now (especially now that Wookies can use C12's). Melee weapons are also good to make, as any FS grinder is gonna burn thru their weapon pretty fast.
But honestly, put a few low cert pistols, rifles and carbines on the bazaar. I laughed when a Master Weaponsmith told me this, but surprisingly, they all sold within a day!
But ALWAYS be on the lookout on peoples vendors for small stacks of good resources...and above all else...
Don't get discouraged!!!

I'm a recent MWS on starsider aswell, and i live 1.5km from CSA, and i can tell you, they dont have large quntities of every good ws resources, i can equal some of their stuff with mearly average resources, anyway, all you need is some patients and wait for the decent spawns to come around, when you do go crazy, whack out as mnay harvesters as you can and spend every credit you got, and hey, your a weaponsmith, you can probably make it back in aobut a month if not less.

Hmmm.....that's a tough one. To be honest with you, Weaponsmith is really not a profession well suited to the casual player. The reason being is that it takes months of diligent monitoring/miningof new spawns to to make weapons competitive with those offered by smiths that have been around from the beginning. It certainly can be done, but it takes a few to several months depending on spawns and you can't really afford to miss anything you need as it spawns, so if you are playing on and off it will be tough to gather everything you need in the quality you need to be truly competitive.
One suggestion might be to focus solely on melee weapons. You'll need fewer resouces than if you try to do them all and they way that Iron is spawning these days you have a decent chance of finding useful spawns in the not too distant future, or limit your crafting initially to grenades. They are quite popular and you can make enough to start investing in other resources you'll need to expand your offerings.
Another idea is to see if you can find a guild that maybe has resources stashed away but needs a weaponsmith. Perhaps they'd be willing to help you mine what you need. You might also try contacting some weaponsmiths on your server explaining that you are a casual player who wants to be a weaponsmith but doesn't have the resources or the time to dedicate to gathering them all. Maybe one of them will let you apprentice so that you can help with some of their crafting or perhaps someone will set you up with small quantities of some of what you need to give you a start, then you can use the income from sales to buy additional small quanties of resources.
Finally, if none of this works, you may want to try selling powerups initially or something else so you can afford to buy some of what you need. As a last resort, look at another crafting profession where resource quality is not really an issue, like Tailor. Granted, it's not nearly as sexy as making weapons, but it would be much easier to get started and stock a vendor even if you dont' play for hours every day.
