Thread: question from a non-weaponsmith
When you guys make ranged weapons, do you have any control over the range or the point blank modifiers?
thanks
No.
Some guns like the Scout Blaster have good point blank range modifiers, and poor ideal range ones. But most guns have good ideal range modifies, and poor point blank ones.
We have no real control.
Yes we can, but don't usually.
We can experiment on:
- speed+damage
- ham
- range
- durability
We have very little effect on hams, but can improve range a fair bit. If we use up our experimentation on range, both the speed and damage will be very bad. Some people might be willing to give up some speed or damage for range, but most won't give up both.
In my experience we can exert a little control through component selection.
For example, on Radiant our adv. blaster rifle barrels lose .2 speed to regular barrels, but pick up some wound %, 2dmg overall, and a +13 to midrange.
Stocks and scopes can also be used to increase dmg and ranges at the cost of speed and HAM costs.
But direct experimentation on ranges is difficult. Most people just want to see high dmg numbers.
Thanks for all the replies. I figured there wasn't a lot of room there, but wanted to ask.
Specifically I was wondering if I could have a carbine, like a DH17 short, crafted that didn'tsuck so bad point blank. If PB modifier could be significantly reduced the loss of damage or speed could be offset with tissues or slicing. It sounds like it would be better just to use a PB powerup of some kind instead.
