Thread: Building up that pile of resources...

I am trying to figure out the best way to collect all the resources that are needed for Weaponsmithing as my alt will probably go weaponsmith eventually and I am trying to stockpile some resources in advance. I want a decent pile of everything that I'm going to need that will be able to sustain me long enough to start making some profits with WSing. I'm also trying to figure out a way to finance the operation, though this may require me to depend on loot hunting, and that might be ok.

So how did you do it? How did you build up your massive collection of resources? I know to check SWGCraft.com for resource stats (or in my case, asiabrothers.com, the Tempest Server resource tracker that's very thorough) and harvest what's good... but how do you get enough of everything?

Are static lots with harvesters helpful? Or can you really only rely on these for grind quality resources?

I want to hear how weaponsmiths started out with this process. I will post follow-up questions, no doubt.

I've only just started my WS career, so my experience isn't worth much as of yet. But I have 55 static harvesters going, and 5 that I move around to pick up things that don't spawn near my static harvesters.

The best way is probably just like you said, watch swgcraft (or equivallent) for the good stuff, and place harvs as necessary.

But what type of stuff do you get with your static harvesters? And how do you run 55 static harvesters anyway? That's a lot of money. Uhm, about 80k per day if they're mediums, or 120k per day if they're heavy. Wow. I could do that for a little while.. but I don't think continuously.

Care to explain that a little bit?

PS- That's not including the initial investment of 55 harvs... several million right there.

Yes, unfortunately, you need money to make money. I've been collecting resources for over a year before I became MWS. The funny thing is that I didn't know I had great resources for WS until I became one. I sure was kicking myself when I realized that I had grinded some of that stuff away.

Basically, you'll need a way to make money on the side, while you're making weapons as a new weaponsmith. You'll need the cash to buy resources, pay for maintenance/power for your harvestors. Whether it be running missions, selling resources, loot whoring, providing profession specific services (ie slicing, buffing, etc), you'll need to maintain at least until you make a name for yourself and weapon sales pick up.

I hear you on using great resources to grind... Only thing I've done worse than that was pass up a like 998 SR spawn of steel back early 2004 because a guildie said, "Nah, WS need high CD." Would have made a great start on my melee stuff.

Anyway, I want to avoid buying resources for a little while and just harvest the best I can. When I have a complete set, I will look over what I have and see what needs to be "upgraded" (ie which ones suck the most). But I need a good way to get as many different types of resources as I can. Any tips here would be helpful.

Looking up resources on SWG craft is certainly helpful. You really need to get an Idea of the relative rarity of a given resource and then the relative rarity on your specific server. For example, if duralloy steel or kammris iron spawns, chanes are the SR is 950 or higher. But because they are pretty common spawns, you don't wanna jump all over the first one that pops up. However, if a high 900 irolunn gas spawns, then that you would surely wanna jump all over. case and point, some spawns are rare, some aren't.

you may also want to try to contact some of the existing or longtime weaponsmiths on the server. they probably would never part with their best stuff, or if they would, only a small bit. however, if they have the 2nd best, or 3rd best, chances are its is just taking up inventory space. and probably would be more than willing to sell it to you at a fair price.

Make a list of resources and just keep an eye out for them all the time. I got a decent amount of resources this way and also buying ocationally from trade forums from a crafter leaving the game. I had a decent amound and could make melee weapons and ranged weapons but they just were not as good esspecially my ranged weapons.

I ended up inheriting everything from a weaponsmith on kettemoor and he was actually one of the best on the server. So I got lucky and got all the resources I needed right there. I now buy extra of certain resources when I see fit.. like buying thehigh OQpolymer or the really nice CD/OQ polysteel copper when I see it on the trade forums.

I also mine stuff that is better or I may need moreof when it spawns. I know at least 1 or 2 different resource sellers who mine stuff for me when I ask them.

If you have the cash, Eagle-one has some good stuff on his resource vendor. You'd be suprised at how many places you can find good resources for sale at pretty good prices.

But, no one can beat the price Misa gave me on a small stack of gall rainbow gem. Thanks Misa.

And a great start on melee weapons would be to make sure you had some of 2 spawns of 1000 SR kammris we've had.
