I posted this in my galaxy forum, but thought I'd ask the experts here too:

I was just talking last night to my bro who's a weaponsmith, and he said something that got me thinking: when he makes guns speed counts for more than damage for getting the higher dps. I had noticed my pre-CU ranged powerups were lowering my dps but thought it was a bug, and I was going to wait a week and try them again, but now I went and looked at them, and sure enough, they are +29% dmg, with a speed cost that I cant remember now. That minimal speed cost made no difference before (because I was speed capped), but now its actually lowering my dps. Anyone else noticing this? Also, are WS making +speed powerups more now? Should they be? Let me know what you think, since I just stumbled onto this and haven't played around ingame with it enough yet to know what really works.

You really need to post this in the Artisan forum as PUPs use artisan experimentation and not weaponsmith. But PUPS do now have an upside and downside, more accuracy/less speed..more speed/less accuracy etc etc

I sorta disagree with number 1... sorta.

I had some pre-cu powerups taht converted to -20s% speed and +16 or so accuracy.. ashame i can't put em on anything. It complains about it being an invalid powerup :-/

I've been making power ups for both melee and ranged that are -15% speed -1 accuracy. Boosts DPS nicely, with a very minimal side effect.

This has been a big issue in the Artisan forum and if you wanted alot more specific information on this you can go look at several of the posts there and it can give you an idea what to expect from your PUPs.

1 - DON'T use any pups from before they CURB they all converted to crap, you may as well delete them now as they will likely make your weapons worse.

2 - PuPs are still useful you just need to find someone who focuses on making them, there are several people who make very worthwhile pups though they usually still have a small downside to them they are nothing like the converted pups.

converted pups for ranged (min/max) should nowbe +29.xx damage / +19.xx speed. These types of pups will actually lower your DPS do not use them.

The new crafted ones I have made vary in stats depending on what I was after, but I made some that were -27.05speed / -11 accuracy, just to give you some idea of what good pups will look like. You can get them at a slightly better speed stat, but at a much higher accuracy cost. I also made a set that was -18.9x speed / -0 accuracy. In this case there is absolutely no downside to using them, but the DPS increase won't be as high as the previous model.

So the moral of the story is that there will always be some give and take on the pups but there are definately some worthwhile pups. Standard 10pt master Artisans however will be severely lacking in the PUP department now and theirs will be similar to the converted ones and generally worthless. There are likely some 14pt master artisans on every server (at least a few) and they will make by far the best PuPs. You will likely have to pay more for them if your going to a 14pt master artisan but it will easily be worth the investment.

With the -27.05speed / -11 accuracy pups I was increasing my weapons from roughly 340 DPS (unmodded) all the way up to 450+ DPS (unmodded). Which made a huge impact in the final results. With some SAC pups I can also drop my SAC from 66 on my weapons down to 47 making a huge diff in my ability to spam specials.

Hope this info helps, by all means feel free to visit the artisan forums for more detailed information on what people are able to make.
