Thread: I hate Plumbum Iron
I did a search and did not find a discussion on this, pardon if I missed it.
I am rather perturbed at the rarity and low quality of Plumbum Iron. I was really looking forward to making a SR Combat pistol, but as long as this material is involved in a gun, it just drags it down to the crapola level.
Plumbum Iron is a required component of these weapons:
Weaponsmith - Expert Firearms Crafting
- Power5 Pistol (30 Units)
- E11 Carbine (40 Units)
- E11 Rifle (45 Units)
- Advanced Projectile Pistol Barrel (17 Units)
Weaponsmith - Master Firearms Crafting
- SR Combat Pistol (20 Units)
Weaponsmith - Master Weaponsmith
- Republic Blaster (35 Units)
On my server, Bria, the BEST Plumbum has been 37 conductivity 477 OQ.
So I have a couple of questions:
1)Is this true of Plumbum in general? Or has Bria just had bad luck?
2)Do the Devs intend this to be so low in quality to control these weapons?
3)Why even have the weapons if they are going to be undermined in this fashion?
If this material is obviously poor for guns, why would it ever be designed into the weapon?
Some of these guns would really kick butt with some half decent materials. But as it stand the Iron is so bad even I as a non-master hit the cap on experimentation…
From my own experience, this is just par for the course on Plumbum Iron. Kettemoor recently had a spawn of it that lasted for about three weeks and was the first spawn of the stuff in, oh, probably 2-3 months? Conductivity and overall quality were both pretty low, but I still stocked up on it. I seem to remember the numbers being roughly in that same region.
I'm thinking this is either intentional, or some unintentional side effect of some other problem.
IE: maybe the quality calculating program is putting a decimal place in the wrong spot, so what should be 374 conductivity ends up being 37.
That or they intentionally gimp the guns, which makes no real sense to me. They're supposed to be powerful. That's why they're elite weapons that require high certs to use.
Well at least us Bria'ns are not alone it seems...though it's sad to hear.
The kicker to me is these are some really nice weapons if we can make em with some better stats. Some of the coolest art work weaponwise on the E11's and the SR
SR with a Shiney black scope and the evil bladed looking barrel is way cool.
Think of all the artwork some guy did to make just the SR fit up to all the barrels and scopes, yet it will never see wide spread use due to suckage.
Yet the 2 most popular pistols, FWG5 and scout, have no custom barrels.....
I feel for you Kav and Plumbum is well a bummer, indeed. I just found some decent stuff on test myself if you can call it decent 965 OQ and 24 CD. It is hard to make a weapon of decent quality when the best you can find is at best 50% effective...
Plumbum has been 900+ OQ on bloodfin, and the weapons made with it aren't even that terrible.

As I understand it (and I may well be wrong), the currentmethod of crafting and experimentation is not as intended, and is being fixed in the next patch?
All qualities of a resource, ifaccounted forin a schematic, are assumed to top out at 1000, yet the maximum for a given quality on a certain resource (type) can be (much) lower, maybe even 100 CON in the case of Plumbum Iron.
So where currently you might be creating items based on a calculation of 47/1000 + 987/1000, it might become 47/100 + 987/1000 in the future.
