Thread: A few questions from a recent Master Weaponsmith...

I just achieved Master Weaponsmith. I pretty much stuck with grinding my way to master, so I am basically clueless about the profession other than the few things I have been told by people (which isn't much).

What should I start out by doing? I know I have to gather resources, lots of them. I have a few gas, chemical and mineral harvesters (all deeded at the moment) ready to go. What resources should I try and gather? (I have never used a harvester before so I am clueless as to how they work exactly)

Is there a certain item that can bring in some sales while I gather resources for better weapons (ie scythes, de-10s, etc)? I am trying to get my merchanting back up after dropping master in order to start up a shop again, so I would like to have somewhat of a constant stream of people purchasing items from me. I heard from a 2003 post that munitions is a good way to bring in sales while gathering resources for other weapons, is this still relevant?

Also, I know that the scythe requires a schematic. How many uses does it have? What else requires schematics?

In the long run, I want to see myself stocking pretty decent weapons such as scythes, de-10s, et cetera (though I guess so do all/most weaponsmiths). I just do not really know what resources I should be gathering and what stats on certain resources I should be looking at.

Any help or advicewould be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

make grenades (imp dets/c12/c22) for fs grinders since they don't require named resources, and people will normally buy them almost no matter the stats (still try to make the best you can though )

and advice for resource accumilation: Don't settle for third or fourth best.. try and get nothing but the best (or close to it if the stats aren't much off). Nothing better to turn away new customers than weapons made with crap resources

How do I tell what resources are good or not? Is there a guide to what stats I should be looking for in certain resources for certain weapons? Also, when choosing where my harvesters go, I heard 70%+ was good, is that something I should worry about?

Hey Yaurra, hope your grind is going well.

Yes, make grenades for now. C-12s and Imp Dets are good to start with as they don't require named resources and they sell pretty quick. You also don't need best-of-the-best resources for grenades like you do for most of your weapons (second or even third best will do nicely). They will also help fund the rest of your resource acquisitions.

If you haven't already, grab some Evoavite (sp?) Kammris Iron. It will probably despawn soon, if it hasn't already, so you may have to buy it off a vendor. But it's the best gun-making iron to ever spawn on Corbantis.

You may want to focus on gathering resources for melee weapons first, as those generally require fewer specific resources. Building up a good resource collection takes time and constant attention.

Also, keep an eye out for ads in the trade forums for retiring WS selling off their resources. Often that's the only time you can get your hands on some of the extinct uber resources.

Hope this helps.

For melee weapons you want high Shock Resistance (SR)and Unit Toughness (UT)(for vibro motors).

For guns you want high Overall Quality (OQ)and Conductivity.

For grenades, you want Conductivity and Unit Toughness for the Warhead Fusing Mechs and Warhead Stabilizers, OQ and Decay Resistance (DR)for the Warhead Mechanisms and High OQ and SR for the final combine.

As you move up the skill trees, you can examine the new schematics you get to see what's important. Also, take some time to make a few practice weapons so you can kind of get the hang of things.

For harvesting, I generally will plant my harvestors on any spot that is 70+% (the higher the better, of course). For most ores though, it's hard to find spots much above 50%. If you have the money, buy 10 heavy mineral and gas harvestors, and a few chemical harvs as well. If you are short on funds, then use Medium harvestors.

See, told you that you'd make master before the end of the week
And I think it was just sod's law about the gas despawning that night

to see what resources I need, and what stats are good see my little chart

(I know, I know - I keep pimping it, but I think it's useful - others must do to!
And yes, it needs a few corrections - I'm waiting till we have concrete CU info and do it at once.
Also, I'm open to any improvement suggestions (apart from make it printable - it just doesn't print nice from firefox IE should be OK though))

Thanks a ton Slim. Yes the grind went well, and very easy. I appreciate all the help and I copied and pasted every bit of into I needed to know into wordpad. I'll catch ya in-game if I have any more questions, if you don't mind.

Awesome guide Maaq, I saved it to my favorites and I'm sure I'll be using it often until I start to get the hang of things. Also, I was about to set up my harvesters for that Skavon Gas but Slim gave me a deal and let me pay 5cpu instead of the 30 I was prepared to pay.

If anyone else has any advice, let me know!

Thanks

I think I have 400K more of the stuff (left over from my FS grind ). It's purely grind quality (800-ish OQ, really low DR). Send me an e-mail ingame if you're interested.

Yaurra, feel free to drop me a line anytime if you have a question. I don't know all the answers, but I'd be happy to help to the best of my ability.

Hmm, when I open up my mineral survey device while on Tatooine, that "evoavite kammis iron" isn't on the list. What am I doing wrong? I don't know anything about harvesters.

Err...Once I place my harvesters, are they there for good?

Not only do I not really know what resources to survey for, but when I find a good spot, the terrain does not let me place it. Can someone tell me some resources I might try surveying for?

Is it usually this much of a pain or am I just getting unlucky?

Placing harvestors is a pain, first you need to find a good spot, 90% or better or you are wasting time and money, thenhave to deal with terrain, houses, lairs and such while placing them. Wait till something good spawns on Dathomir, god I hate that planet.

I placed a couple harvesters. I brought with me 70k units of power, thinking it would be enough for a few harvesters for a good amount of time. I was wrong. It was just enough to hold 2 harvesters for around 20 days each. I guess I should buy a whole buttload of the stuff for next time.

Also, I set it up on a couple 80% areas for dolovite Iron and plumbum Iron, having no idea if these items are even needed / recommended for weapons I would like to make... I think I need a guide or something to know what resources for what weapon, are on what planet.
