Thread: Divisions In Smithing
samijx wrote:Well my friend...it's just a little thing called competition. In my case, I'm a third type of WS. I make weapons for myself and occasionally for a friend. I have a vendor that I sell just a handfull of weapons. I used to have a shop and It supported my weaponsmithing habbit, but these days, I just don't have the desire to supply lots of weapons....so I just make a few for myself. I do agree with you that some people get rather smug and don't help out noobs.....but that attitude is not limited to the weaponsmith profession.
Thats me aswell, I thought I was the only one. I have 1 fairly well stocked vendor, I sell 4 or 5 normal weapons a day. I have alot of respect for people who run it like a serious business and make millions a day but I enjoy it the way I do it, I did enough business in college, if I wanted to run a business I would do it in the real world, I play to have fun and get away from real life.
But back to the topic, I will always stop what Im doing to help someone whether its a question, help in a fight or help on these forums.

Competition for what? Don't get me wrong, I mean I aspire to be the best and I want to have the best stats I can, but sharing info isn't going to make most people that haven't been doing it for as long as I have raise their stats enough to beat my guns. Thats not being cocky, its just that resources pretty much make the smith. A lot of these guys haven't amassed the resources I have yet. As for the competition thing, really if I give pointers to someone and they are able to match my stuff, thats awesome, but I'm probably not going to lose out on customers because of it. There are plenty of people buying weapons that there is enough business to go around and you'd probably be surprised at the loyalty of a lot of your customers. I have guys that have been buying from me for almost 2 years. But as for sharing info, anytime any other WS or non WS has a question I am more than willing to help out. I think itsbetter to be helpful or a mentor to someone than be secretive about it. They may learn something or have a resource you might need later on, why not encourage something like that? Heck I'll even bump posts by my fellow smiths in the auction forums. You also have to think that you or they may not end up keeping the profession. You could end up buying from them or they from you one day. (Not in my case, I didn't master the FS grind because I wanted to give up WS
) If you foster a friendly relationship and they decide to one day give it up, they could very well send their customers your way.
I should add that, I don't mind if another smith asks to buy 1-5k of a resource I have as long as I have a significant supply of it. But, I harvest as much as I do so I don't run out. ![]()
