Thread: Hey Devs, where are the resources?

Finally made it to Master WS and I can't even make advanced components due to lack of resources. All the scraping by for creds, the hideous grind, all the steel I had to mine, for what! I can't even make a decent scout blaster.

Where is all this stuff? I come here and read that some required resources have NEVER been available, or have been MIA for weeks or months.

What the hell is going on?

Welcome to the wonderful world of being a crafter.

If you look at it objectively it's a system thats in place for several reasons. Before the shifting began everytype of resource that exhisted was available - most of the rarer ones were only on "adventure" planets however. What happened in those first few weeks is that any resource in any concentrationworth mining was C_O_V_E_R_E_D with harvesters.

It made it hard for the up and coming crafters to get a decent place for some resources. Now the new system may not be any better as you are on the raw end of the deal. But when all of the same resources exhisted - and that's all that exhisted. Everyone who was a master with 10 experimentation points, would make exactly the same guns as they had the same resources. This led to cut throat pricing and the market economy was slowly in decline.

So then came the shifts.

Within a few weeks, it became the have and the have-nots. Admittedly i'm more towards the have, but i've been playing on my server since it began and actively sought to collect the resources I needed. But everyone having different sets of resources at different times results in different weapons and a varied market. The bottom line is your weapons are only as good as your resources. So you have to work for it. I also realize that you have just recently become a master and the possibilities have just opened up for you. But you have to work towards it, it shouldn't just be handed to you on a silver platter.

That's my rant, don't want to upset you, just my opinion on the matter.

P.S. Arkkyle their was 1 static, then 2 shifts of ostrine - however none have been within the past 3 months.

I'm not asking for a platter. I simply want to know why required resources have not, and in some cases have never, become available. Surely this must be a bug and not some intended change designed solely to protect the elitist, long-timer from competition and market deflation?

Does anyone know if there's a fix pending for this problem?

Thanks

Well, if you want to classify it as an elitist issue, then that's your perogative.

As I said tho look at it objectively.

If you want to take sunrunner as an example. Certain resources are rare, ostrine carbonate being the most. In the four months or so of our servers exhistence, during the middle two months some resources were rare. First class 3 solid petro didn't actually shift in until the 3rd month or so. Since then their has been 2-3 shifts. Dolovite iron was the same deal, it only spawned 2 weeks ago, and since then their has been a second spawn. Ditanium steel for example spawned 3 times in a row over 2 1/2 months ago, and was becoming rare. But yesterday it spawned on a few planets, and it was a nice ditanium at that. Plumbum iron as well, although it is not as rare as the above resources, two days ago the newest plumbum has been the best plumbum in terms of weapon assembly.

Now with all that said, the new ditaniumI spoke of, is a good kind in terms of weapon assembly (t21/elite carbine). But the older weaponsmiths who were able to obtain the three earlier types have ditanium -one with a better UT (adv. reinforcement cores) one with a better SR (LVA's VL's) and still a slightly better one with better cond/sr for t21's and elites. Now concerning that last ditanium i have less than 1500 of it, so i can make roughly 8-9 more factory made t21's with that, and i'm out. Then my T21's etc. will be on par with the rest of the newer weaponsmiths of my server. But the newer guys still have ditanium so they can make all of the above, they just may not be able to hit the same numbers as me. This is what makes the market economy work.

My point wasn't that you shouldn't have the resources you want. You should, but try to have some patience. Or try to seek out some of the resources you need from other weaponsmiths. Some may be able to help you out with relatively small amounts of certain things your missing, I myself only got my crism ore from another friendly weaponsmith who was willing to help me out. Eventually everything will shift in and you will be able to make any weapon you wish, but for now I would have to say the system is working as intended.

Ah, but they're not required resources, they're rare, and rare for a reason. If we had numerous and regular spawns of this stuff, every adventurer would be running around with T21s and the like... everyone would be super-powerful. It helps balance things out, and certainly makes it a bit more special when something finally does spawn and high end, rare guns do start going into production.

Just remember... because of this rareness, we can charge out the ass for these guns.

Resources were always intended to shift, but your server (also Lowca and at least one other) got stuck fora verylong time after launch and they didn't fix it until everyone complained. Lowca had the same resources for a month, then they forced a shift which stayed in for a day before they realized they screwed up and forced another shift, then another several weeks before another forced shift, then three days (which included over 30 hours of server downtime), then another forced shift that finally fixed it.

The shifting mechanics seem rather flawed as there appears to be no maximum time without aspecific spawn- some resources still haven'tappeared on some servers now, almost five months after release.

Over a very long period (3+ months) most resources will spawn ansimilar or better version, equalizing the stats on everyone's guns. However, the turnover rate for craftersis usually shorter than the turnover rate for resources because they don't have the patience to wait for a spawn.

As far as I know, and remember - I have a long memory. No resources shifted within the first month or so of this game going public. I played on kettemoore before sunrunner went live and their was a minimum of 3-4 weeks without a shift.

Their was a patch, in which they turned on resource shifting. A patch message with something to that effect and then shifting as we know it came into our little worlds. Some servers got stuck, sunrunner was not one of them.

This is my memory, correct me if i'm wrong. But I rarely am. =D

Ah, I think you're right on that. The problem was that the first shift that fixed most of the servers didn't fix Lowca and the others.I remember reading about other servers having resource shifts and waiting for a shift on Lowca that never came until I posted a thread in SWG Discussion and bumped it for a week.

The early resource problems don't have much effect on the current weapons market - anything bigger than a PME was very rare then, and most people were just harvesting steel for grinding (and taking full advantage of the harvesters-don't-require-power bug). Most of the old crafters are gone, and the ones who stuck around and produced stuff the whole time would have run out of the old resources months ago.
