I think the word "Smedley" just became another verb.
"It looks like we've been Smedleyed on this one"

"It's mixed. It's very positive [feedback] from the people who are actually playing it. And we also have the expected push back from the people who haven't actually logged in to try it," says Smedley. "Once people get in there, it's overwhelmingly positive. It's the "the sky is falling" crowd on the forums that's still going to take some converting. I understand that. These are big changes."
Hey Smedley! you reading? Good good...
I've been to the TCs, and spent hours there. The sky is falling. Never lump me up in a blanket statement like that again. This is an absolute insult to the intelligence of your playerbase. I am highly offended that you would apply this kind of logic to whisk away the concerns of people like me who HAVE seen this new vision, and have read the intentions, and have judged it as yet another failed and half-finished excecution of questionable theories by a company who's tactic of blind siding us with this sudden application of a new system has us doubting both its ethics and if the playerbase, or thr bottom line are the primary concern.
Simply put- I'm not going anywhere, but I'm also not going to take an insult like this lying down.

You know those anti-smoking commercials that show fictional meetings of tobacco executives coming up with preposterous-but-true ideas for improving the popularity of their product?
When I see them, Smedley and Torres are wearing suits in every one.

The only way you're going to get his attention is with the "cancel" button. He doesn't speak gamer, he speaks corporate. In order to converse with Smed on a level he understands you need to talk in dollars.

Cancelling is not the proper response. Simply put, this is an insult to me, and bad PR for him. However, his own forums is not the place for me to take this up.

The game is dead, folks... There is nothing we can do about it. The decision was made to market to 12yr-25yr olds who only want to fight. They are banking on 3 mos per account and that there will be a continuing overturn of the player base to keep the profits up. This is not a developement team that listens to the players. It is too bad the devs are not more like the devs in DAoC, which has four differnet server types, including a classic server, so all types of players will be happy. The only retribution we have is to not buy Sony or LA products in the future.

I have played on Test Center. It's a mixed bag. There are some good aspects to the combat changes. But the Weaponsmith profession is flatlining. That's the main reason I play this game.
Having read that, I can't say I want to give this tool any more of my hard-earned cash...

Smedley says that these changes will keep Star Wars: Galaxies as a going concern. "We wanted to breath new life into the game and make it the Star Wars experience that people always wanted it to be.
"Despite some of the rhetoric coming from the existing player base, we've not noticed any rise in people canceling their subscriptions. It's just a very small, very vocal minority."

You can't believe any subscription numbers that SOE puts out in the their press releases. The reason being that when SOE "counts" up how many subscribers SWG has, they're most likelyincluding everyone who has a Station Access pass. For example, I know plenty of people who play both EQ and EQII. For those people, its generally cheaper for them to get a Station Access pass then to subscribe to both games seperately, however, since SWG is also included in a Station Access pass, SOE counts them as a SWG subscriber, too, even if that person has never logged into SWG once. Thus Smedley is able to claim that subscription numbers have been going up since the CU, even though the actual SWG playerbase has been shrinking in size.
