I'm finding that my highest DPS weapon also kills the quickest...so...What I suggest, to finally end this debate is for someone less lazy than me (
) to make a chart showing the benchmarks on speed mod to weapon speed. I won't lie..speed of attacks is a big issue for me as a pistoleer. The more often I can attack at a comparable damage, the less I get hit in return. Yeah, it's great if you never run out of action, but if you're not running out because it takes you half again as long to attack...
I know there's speed caps in place...what I DON'T know is what they are. You guys do. You know your weapons, you know what they're capable of statwise. So put the stats out there, preferbly where us buyers don't have to sift through hundreds of posts to find them. Let us know the numbers. (I know, you need some battle folks for field tests)
The problem is that even the stats don't directly correlate to the combat power anymore...but some baselines would be nice to have...I feel like I don't know what I'm looking for when I search for a weapon anymore. And you can say "Well, this stat is the better judge" or "No, it's THAT stat."...but that still leaves me without a baseline.
Are there charts for this? Hard numbers I can look at and use to base my abilities on my character from? Because that's what we (your customers) need.
When I say I want the best weapon, I mean I want the weapon that hits faster, cheaper(action) and for more NET damage for the duration of combat than the other guy has...because that's what matters to me...I don't care if I'm only hitting for 600 dmg a second if the other guy is only hitting for 1000 every two seconds.
[edit] I guess what I'm saying is that initial DPS might not matter, but sustained DPS does.

I don't think this debate will ever end since it mostly revolves around "I find" or "it works for me". This is the main reason why I rely so much on customer input when crafting a custom weapon: I try and tune the weapon for that player's character stats.
And, don't confuse sustained DPS with estimated base DPS. They are totally different beasts.

Yeah, I know..that's why I'm asking for data that I'm too lazy to collect on my own...I'm good at delegation.

Like I keep saying... you don't need to know the specifics to milk the system, you just need to be able to see the tendancies. Weaponsmithing/combatisn't black and white anymore - learn to read the grey.
If you want to learn what your most efficient skill/weapon use is, that's your job - thats what makes great players.

I'd settle for being a mediocre player.

All I know is my 802 mod dps fwg5 with 91 SAC can't be bad
My personal Featherweight FWG5 is base 2.02 998 max and a base dps 360, SAC 88.
I've toyed around with various templates thanks to the /respec and have to say that if I use /ImprovedForceSpeed and the combat speed food my attacks are faster then anything I've seen yet. With pup and modifiers I was hitting 700 almost 8 attacks out of10 seconds; not master pisotleer; modified dps was pushed over 800.
