Thread: On the failure rate of the Weaponsmith Profession; a Short Study.
Stupid thing posting too quickly...
Anyways, I just did a short study. I was about to grind 18815 duranium steel toquarks,so I figured I'd do a study to determine the average failure rate in Weaponsmithing.
Materials:
(4) 13.92 Effectiveness Weapon, Droid, and General Item crafting tools.
(18815) Duranium Steel
I was practice grinding Projectile Rifle Barrels (46 Steel each). Each Practice yields 94 experience.
(18815/46) = 409.02 or about 409 theoretical Projectile Rifle Barrels. 409 x 94 = 38446, the theoretical experience gain.
At the beginning of the grinding excercise I had 65773 Weapon Crafting Experience. After grinding through all of the steel ( gotta finish up munitions before master, heh) , I had 101878 experience. 101878 - 65773 = 36105Experimental Experience Gained. 36105 / 94 = 384, the number of experimental combines. To get percent error ( which in this activity is simply the failure rate )...
...we follow theexpression: ((Theoretical Yield - Experimental yield ) / (Theoretical yield ) x 100 = error %.
ExperienceError:(38446 - 36105)/(38446) x 100 =about 6% (6.14 exact)
Combine Error:(409 - 384)/(409) x 100 = about 6% (6.11 exact )
So I think it is pretty safe to assume that on average, a weaponsmith ( with a 13.92 effectiveness crafting tool near no crafting stations!! ) will have a 6% error ratio.
Factors that (may)affect results:
-I am an expert weaponsmith ( 75 Assmembly. )
- I was not near a crafting station.
- I was crafting in the prone position.
- I was using 13.92 effectiveness crafting tools.
- It was possible (though very unlikely considering the study was done after midnight) that I had gained a slight amount of usage experience, thus slightly skewing the results: however, I hadn't sold a gun in seven days, so I consider it relatively unlikely.
Thoughts or comments? I'd like to see some others replicate this or something of its nature so we can compare results.
6%. Curses.
Well, since the AD&D days, using a 20 sided die, 1/20 (or 5%) was a typical critical failure rate.
And back when I did trials with several hundred gaffi sticks, I saw (more or less) a 5% crit failure rate. And this was from actually recording each trial.
Why on earth were you crafting while prone?
