Thread: Experimentation: What I'd really like to see happen...
By now we've all heard that on the test server experimentation has been changed so that items that don't have a 'required' trait now count as zeros in the assembly as far as experimentation percentages goes. My hope is that this is the first step of a two-step process to finally make guns the complex systems they really are.
Right now, you have a gun and the requirements for all of the pieces are the same. Most often that's Conductivity/Overall Quality. All of the resources are judged against those requirements and (in future) the fact that we need varied resources to create the gun will mean that all guns have innate penalties on construction and few of them will be over 50%.
My hope is that the next step is tailoring the requirements for each space in the schematic. So that for the FWG5, the iron component requires Unit Toughness/Overall quality, etc etc etc so that the requirements are reflective of what's being done. For instance wouldn't it be more sensible if the fuel in a flame thrower neded to have a high potential energy to add something to the weapon?
Experimentation should then also tie back to each of those lines, maybe experimenting on the trigger assembly increases attack speed, experimenting on the energy capacitor increases damage, experimenting on the rifle body increases durability, etc. I think that would add a lot of variety to the types of weapons we see, and allow us (and force us) to cater to the needs of specific customers.
It would also finally make the gun designs make sense, since it makes little sense to build something out of iron that needs high conductivity.
Yes, id like to see those changes aswell, also maybe make it so that you can pile experimation points onto one specific attribute like just speed, at the exspence of all others, would make for better customization. and im still a firm beliver we should be able to change beam color, atleast on lazer weapons. as far as color of the weapon itself, i dunno, im not sure i wanna see folks running around with bright green weps, like a anime cartoon. who knows though. might work.(sorry to add to yer post)
